A dried ghast is a mob-like block revealed at Minecraft LIVE – March 2025 that is planned to be added to the game with the Summer Drop 2025 in June 2025.[1] When soaked in water over time, it turns into a ghastling. It can be found at nether fossils in soul sand valleys or crafted with ghast tears and bone blocks.

A dried ghast can be mined with a tool or by hand, and it always drops itself when mined. If mined while waterlogged, it reverts to its "dry" state regardless of which state it has reached while waterlogged.

A dried ghast is removed and drops as an item if water flows into its space.

Natural generation

Dried ghasts naturally generate in soul sand valleys as part of nether fossils.

Usage

When a dried ghast is soaked in water, it becomes hydrated and green particles appear. Over time, It gradually develops a smiling expression and becomes brighter in color. After 20 minutes[2], it transforms into a ghastling, which matures over time into a happy ghast.[1] When the water of a waterlogged dried ghast is removed, it slowly reverts back to the original, dried state at the same rate as it hydrates.[2]

Starting fully dried, the Dried Ghast becomes partially hydrated after 5 minutes, after another 5 minutes, it becomes mostly hydrated. After a total of 15 minutes, it becomes fully rehydrated, with a Ghastling spawning another 5 minutes later.
