Potato stems can be broken using any tool, but an axe is the fastest. Additionally, swords speed up the breaking time.

Potato stems generate naturally as part of potato trees, as well as in potato villages and potato mineshafts.
Crafting ingredient

Potato stems cannot be stripped with an axe and cannot be crafted into wood or hyphae, unlike all other log-like blocks.
Issues relating to "Potato Stem" are not maintained on the bug tracker because it is an April Fools' joke, and is therefore not in the newest stable version or snapshot. Issues reported there are closed as "Invalid".
