The Trial of the Nameless is the collective name for a group of two optional sub dungeons within the mission Desert Temple. It consists of Dark Descent and Sinister Shrine.

Dark Descent is an optional sub dungeon within the mission Desert Temple, and is one of the six endersent dungeons added by the Echoing Void DLC. If the eye of ender dropped by the Reaping Eye has not been collected, Dark Descent has a 100% chance of spawning. Otherwise, it has a rare chance of spawning.

Sinister Shrine is an optional sub dungeon within the mission Desert Temple. It is part of the Dark Descent sub dungeon, and has a 100% chance of spawning within it. It contains an eye of ender.

Appearance and description[edit | edit source]

Dark Descent is located to the north-west in the area shortly before the battle with the Nameless One in Desert Temple. It is a dimly lit tower suspended over lava, with glowing green candles and several endermen. The gate blocking the entrance door of Dark Descent is lowered by activating the button behind the spike traps to the right of the door. Upon descending to the bottom of Dark Descent, two fancy chests and several emerald urns can be found, as well as the entrance door of Sinister Shrine. Sinister Shrine is a dimly lit sequence of areas that feature a massive number of deadly traps, including spike traps, metal blades, and crushers. The starting area of Sinister Shrine is called Erratic Entry, and it contains two emerald urns accessed by activating a button. The area encountered after Erratic Entry is called Crushing Crescent, and it contains a massive number of crushers leading into an area with a glowing pool that has a gold key golem in the center. Upon entering the area with the glowing pool, an ambush will begin. After defeating said ambush, the gold key golem can be used on the yellow locked gateway in the center of Crushing Crescent, allowing access to further areas in Sinister Shrine. An area with a walkway covered in spike traps suspended over lava is found past the locked gate. This area is called Wily Walkway, and features several buttons that must be activated to progress. Upon activating the buttons, an area with a massive number of metal blades, called Laceration Lane, can be entered. After making it through Laceration Lane, the main area of Sinister Shrine is found, containing an arena suspended over lava that contains an endersent. If the eye of ender has not been collected yet, this endersent will be the Reaping Eye instead. Once the endersent has been defeated, the last area of Sinister Shrine, called Elevated Exit, can be accessed. It contains several palm trees and spring platforms that launch the player towards the exit door of Sinister Shrine.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The song used in these sub dungeons is a slowed down version of the song Necromancer.
  • The fight with the endersent in Sinister Shrine does not use the song arena1, unlike most other endersent dungeons, and instead allows the endersent's localized music track Enderman to play. It shares this distinction with Wrecked Workshop.
