Sculk is a block found abundantly in the deep dark or converted from other blocks by a sculk catalyst. Like most of the rest of the sculk family, it drops experience when broken by a tool.
Obtaining[edit | edit source]
Breaking[edit | edit source]
A sculk block can be mined with any tool, but hoes are the quickest. It drops itself only if mined with any tool enchanted with Silk Touch. It always drops 1 experience if mined without Silk Touch.

Natural generation[edit | edit source]
Sculk are naturally generated in patch formations within the deep dark biome.

Post-generation[edit | edit source]
Sculk blocks generate when a mob dies within 8 blocks of a sculk catalyst, replacing blocks in the area with the sculk_replaceable
tag, which includes the surface materials of most biomes in all three dimensions:
Stone
Granite
Andesite
Diorite
Tuff
Calcite
Deepslate

Usage[edit | edit source]
Sculk blocks are primarily used for decoration. They have an animated texture that consists of glowing spots, but they do not illuminate the surroundings. It has a similar texture of an end portal viewed from above.
Sculk Spreading and Growth[edit | edit source]
Sculk, when connected to sculk catalysts, is used to grow a patch of sculk. See sculk catalyst for more details.

Issues[edit | edit source]
Issues relating to "Sculk" or "Sculk Block" are maintained on the bug tracker. Issues should be reported and viewed there.

- MC-220397 – Many non-living entities being killed with /kill triggers the sculk sensor
- MC-278756 – Sculk sensors activate after falling from a height of 2 blocks while sneaking and unsneaking afterwards
- MC-295398 – Structure blocks create bugged sculk sensors
- MC-207257 – Glowing gets applied to the upper texture of water of waterlogged sculk sensors
- MC-207411 – Sculk sensors do not detect when rails, redstone wire, repeaters or comparators are broken due to them losing support
- MC-208509 – Sculk sensors do not detect obsidian/cobblestone/stone/basalt forming from lava and water
- MC-209540 – Inconsistent sculk sensor detection with double blocks
- And 91 other open issues.

- MCPE-115818 – Sculk sensors do not detect players jumping on top of pointed dripstone
- MCPE-116151 – Sculk sensor particles are dark blue
- And 37 other open issues.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- "Sculk" is derived from the word "skulk," meaning "keep out of sight, typically with a sinister or cowardly motive".[1]
- During the prototype phase, sculk was much easier to trigger; simply stepping on it would make a lot of noise and attract the warden. This ended up being deemed unfair.[2]
