A secret mission or side dungeon is a hidden location in Minecraft Dungeons unlocked by collecting scrolls, which are found in optional sub dungeons within missions. There are thirteen secret missions in total, consisting of six on the mainland, four in the island realms, and three in other dimensions.

Appearance and description

Secret missions are traversable levels much like missions, however they must be unlocked by collecting scrolls and most do not have opening cinematics. Secret missions are not required for progressing the main story. The scrolls that are used to unlock secret missions are typically found in optional sub dungeons, a small location found within missions and secret missions. Secret missions are not visible on the mission select map until their parent mission has been completed, after which they show as a locked location. Echoing Void is the only DLC to not feature any secret missions.

Scroll

A scroll is an interactable object that can be found within various locations in Minecraft Dungeons. When interacted with, scrolls disappear and unlock a secret mission.

Obtaining

Scrolls appear on stone plinths that usually have a candle on them, which gets extinguished when the scroll is collected. Most scrolls are found in optional sub dungeons within missions, with the only exceptions to this being the three scrolls found in other dimensions, which are instead found on the main path within missions. All missions have a 100% chance of generating a scroll, as the optional sub dungeons where said scrolls are found always spawn in every mission layout. The only exceptions to this are the four scrolls found in the island realms, as they are found within optional sub dungeons that have varying spawn chances.

• Creepy Crypt scroll
  • Found within Creeper Woods Crypt, a crypt-like optional sub dungeon within Creeper Woods. This sub dungeon has a 100% chance of spawning during the following objective: "THE CARAVAN: FIND THE CARAVAN"
• Arch Haven scroll
  • Found within Mystery Ship, an optional sub dungeon inside a large ship within Pumpkin Pastures. This sub dungeon has a 100% chance of spawning during the following objective: "THE LAST HEARTH: FIND THE VILLAGE"
• Soggy Cave scroll
  • Found within Secret Cave, an optional sub dungeon shortly before the Corrupted Cauldron fight within Soggy Swamp. This sub dungeon has a 100% chance of spawning during the following objective: "A PERILOUS POTION: FIND THE CAULDRON"
• Lower Temple scroll
  • Found within Lower Levels, an optional sub dungeon shortly after the door unlocked with the key golem within Desert Temple. This sub dungeon has a 100% chance of spawning during the following objective: "THE NAMELESS KINGDOM: FIND THE TOMB"
• Underhalls scroll
  • Found within Secret Room, a small optional sub dungeon accessed by activating one of the shields hanging on the walls towards the beginning of Highblock Halls. This sub dungeon has a 100% chance of spawning during the following objective: "CRASH THE PARTY: REACH THE THRONE ROOM"
• ??? scroll
  • Found within Moo Room, a part of the Great Hall optional sub dungeon within in Camp. This scroll is accessed differently compared to other scrolls. Heroes must find all nine runes collected from the nine rune rooms found in each of the Mainland non-DLC non-secret missions. After obtaining all nine runes, the Moo Room is opened in the Great Hall where the scroll that unlocks ??? can be found, along with two obsidian chests.

Island realms

• Panda Plateau scroll
  • Found in Fossil Canyon, an optional sub dungeon within Dingy Jungle. This sub dungeon has a rare chance of spawning during the following objective: "JOURNEY INTO THE JUNGLE: CROSS THE CANYON"
• Lost Settlement scroll
  • Found in River Lock, an optional sub dungeon within Frosted Fjord Cave in Frosted Fjord. This sub dungeon has a rare chance of spawning during the following objective: "THE CREEPING WINTER: REJOIN THE RIVER"
• Colossal Rampart scroll
  • Found in Ravine Ruins, an optional sub dungeon within Windswept Peaks. This sub dungeon has a rare chance of spawning during the following objective: "THE ROOF OF THE WORLD: OPEN THE GATE"
• Radiant Ravine scroll
  • Found in Twilight Cavern, an optional sub dungeon within Coral Rise. This sub dungeon has a rare chance of spawning during the following objective: "THE HIDDEN DEPTHS: EXPLORE THE REEF"

  • Found shortly before the exit door in Warped Forest. This scroll has a 100% chance of spawning during the following objective: "WARPED FOREST: FIND THE EXIT"

Trivia

• Despite being secret missions, Radiant Ravine, Crimson Forest, Soul Sand Valley, and Nether Fortress have unique loading screens, rather than using the generic secret mission loading screen that depicts Creepy Crypt.
• Scrolls are usually found in optional sub dungeons within missions, however the scrolls that unlock Crimson Forest, Soul Sand Valley, and Nether Fortress are instead found on the main path within missions.
