— Guide to Minecraft Dungeons: A Handbook for Heroes |
An enchantment is an ability that augments weapons and armor by applying enchantment points. Enchantment points can be obtained by leveling up, and once applied to an item, can only be retrieved by salvaging it, upgrading it with the blacksmith or changing an enchantment with the Enchantsmith.

Overview[edit | edit source]
Enchantment slots[edit | edit source]
Weapons and armor each have up to three enchantment slots, with up to three random choices per slot. One enchantment can be selected from the available choices to apply onto the equipment. Each enchantment can be extended up to 3 tiers.
The number of available enchantment slots on collected equipment and the type of enchantments on them depends on the difficulty and the hero’s threat level. Unavailable enchantment slots or enchantment choices cannot be unlocked. All enchantments are either stackable or non-stackable. Stackable enchantments be stacked up to three times.
Once an enchantment has been applied, the only way to clear it is to use the Blacksmith, which upgrades the item and returns all invested enchantment points, or the Enchantsmith, which returns all invested enchantment points on a particular enchantment. Salvaging the item will also return all invested enchantment points.
There are two types of enchantments: common and powerful. Common enchantments require less enchantment points than powerful enchantments.
Gilded items have increased Enchantment Point costs.

Enchantments behave independently when stacked. A weapon with two Chains III, each having a 30% chance to occur, does not give a 60% chance to occur, but instead a combined 51% chance, including a 9% chance that the effect occurs twice.
Built-in enchantments[edit | edit source]
When dealing with equipment possessing a built-in enchantment, that enchantment is unavailable as a choice to apply onto that particular piece of equipment, even if the built-in enchantment is normally stackable. (However, it will still start with that enchantment) For example, the diamond pickaxe never has Prospector as an option, the firebolt thrower never has Chain Reaction as an option, the nimble turtle armor never has Rush as an option, and so on.
The only exception to this is in the Tower, where the uniquesmith can turn a normal item into a unique item while keeping its enchantments.
Built-in enchantments are shown as the enchantment icon with an orange border on the equipment's properties list and are visible in-game through the enchantment notification icon and enchantment effects. Also, the Status Effect icon relating to the enchantment appears on the Heads-Up Display upon the use of non-enchanted equipment. Enchantments that are built-in cannot be upgraded, altered, or removed.
Soul enchantments[edit | edit source]
Enchantments that involve souls, with the exceptions of Bag of Souls and Soul Focus, occur only on weapons and armor that provide soul gathering naturally, such as the soul knife, soul bow, or soul robe and their respective unique variants.
Soul gathering equipment can possess non-soul enchantments the same as regular equipment.
Anima Conduit, Enigma Resonator, and Soul Siphon are soul enchantments that occur on both melee and ranged weapons. Soul Speed occurs on armor.
Gilded gear[edit | edit source]

Gilded gear is obtainable to a maximum power of 263. Gilded gear can be obtained by:
- Defeating ancient mobs during Ancient Hunts
- Bartering with the Piglin Merchant using gold.
- Completing the Tower when at a high enough level.
Gilded gear is melee weapons, ranged weapons and armor that possess an extra built-in enchantment at tier I, II, or III. Gilded gear have increased enchantment costs to activate and upgrade the enchantments within the slots. Gilded items appear in the inventory with a gilded gold background and a golden tag adjacent to the rarity. On lower difficulties, the hero may receive a tier I enchantment, but on higher levels the hero can receive up to a tier III enchantment.
All weapons and armor currently in the game have gilded variants that can be bought or dropped from a certain ancient mob. Prior to the release of 1.12.0.0, a DLC-exclusive ancient mob like the Swarm drops items exclusive to the DLC it comes from.
Gilded gear can be salvaged for gold rather than the usual emeralds with regular gear. Ancient Hunts do not allow gilded gear to be used as an offering.
Special event items equipment can be obtained gilded through the Tower.
Enchanted mobs[edit | edit source]
Enchanted mobs are glowing, slightly larger mobs with 1 or more additional properties that make them more of a threat to heroes compared to standard mobs. Enchantments can be applied onto mobs from an enchanter, the Arch-Illager or spawn with enchantments. Passive mobs such as sheep, and neutral mobs can also appear with enchantments. Some of these enchantments, such as Heal Allies and Regeneration are exclusive to mobs and not available to heroes.
List of enchantments[edit | edit source]
Hero-accessible enchantments that can occur in the enchantment slots as enchantments choices. These can be upgraded and can occur as gilded built-ins.
The enchanter's tome artifact can apply Double Damage, Fast Attack, or Quick onto nearby summoned mobs and other heroes.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Despite Bag of Souls and Soul Focus involving souls, it is not exclusive to soul gathering armor.
- It is possible to apply up to three of the same enchantment to an item if that enchantment appears multiple times on the same equipment.
- Unset is a fail-safe enchantment with no functionality. It uses the icon for Radiance Shot.
- Artifact-related enchantments aren't built into any equipment.
- Melee enchantments when forcefully applied onto armor continue to function as if they were applied onto melee weapons.
