A vindicator is a hostile axe-wielding illager that can be found within the various missions of Minecraft Dungeons, and has two variants. The first variant is unarmored and wields an axe, the second variant has a helmet and a double axe, and the third variant wears a horned helmet and wields a whirlwind. In Minecraft Dungeons Arcade, the second variant wields an axe instead, and the third variant wields a double axe.

Lore[edit | edit source]

Before the Arch-Illager appeared, vindicators were basic illager soldiers, guarding the woodland mansions and participating in raids. After Archie gets the Orb of Dominance, the vindicators and pillagers led by the evokers Thord and Walda, joined the Arch-Illager's army, patrolling now the Highblock Keep, the Fiery Forge, Redstone Mines, and participating in raids, now with the help of redstone golems and the redstone monstrosity. After the heroes defeat the Arch-Illager, they traveled to other areas of the mainland and even other dimensions, where vindicators can also be found.

If a vindicator sees a hero, it charges and attacks with an axe.

Tier 3 Vindicators cannot be stunned by anything except some artifacts and any weapon with the Stunning enchantment.

Strong attack

Vindicators attack the hero on sight, performing powerful axe swings at melee range. They are incredibly fast, though they attack slower than most other melee monsters.

Retreat

After vindicators attack a hero, they retreat. When they retreat, they lower their axes.

Target lock

Vindicators turn to "lock onto" the hero if they run more than fifteen blocks away. Once locked on, their charge speed is greatly increased and they no longer retreat after hitting. Instead, they will chase the hero while attacking whenever they are in range until aggravation is exhausted.

Aggressive

A vindicator becomes aggressive if a hero is standing in the vindicator's taunt circle deals damage to them.

Novelty
Vindicator "Novelty" animation.

If the hero is surrounded by three or more vindicators and has already been attacked by some of them, while at a sufficient distance the vindicator will appear to be performing a battle cry while waving their axe in the air.

Quotes[edit | edit source]

VINDICATOR – These axe-wielding terrors are surprisingly quick on their feet. They'll charge at you in a frenzy and attempt to mow you down with one swift chop. It can difficult to react quickly with a bow, so try to hit them with a melee weapon before they can hurt you.

Issues[edit | edit source]

Issues for Minecraft Dungeons relating to "Vindicator" are no longer maintained on the bug tracker since September 28, 2023. However, issues reported before then can still be viewed there.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

Vindicator's texture imported into the illusioner's sketelon mesh model
  • The vindicator's textures are perfectly compatible with the illusioner's model, and the unused white wig will appear in place of the Illusioner's hood layer, as well as the texture of the Vindicator's unused closed arms and upside down T eyebrows.
  • The vindicator has an outsourced cinematic version that can be seen in the Minecraft Dungeons: Opening Cinematic and in the Squid Coast loading screen, using the skin texture of the base game (pre 1.14) and having a collar with the same color as the pants, instead of red.
  • Due to outsourcing, vindicators in-game, in achievements, or in books sometimes have rendering errors or text errors.
  • Vindicators have an unused legs position while attacked in Minecraft Dungeons Arcade.
