A wither skeleton is an undead hostile mob that can be found within the Flames of the Nether DLC of Minecraft Dungeons. They are equipped with nether swords, resembling the stone swords they wield in Minecraft.

Spawning[edit | edit source]

Behavior[edit | edit source]

Unlike the original game, Wither Skeletons are not immune to lava, and do not attack piglins. Their behavior AI is similar to Vindicators, as they have same base health, retreat after hitting heroes, and "target lock" and "novelty" behavior. However, they have long attack range and move faster, and can switch attack behavior similarly, to iron golems.

Walk

Wither skeletons move fast and run at high speed toward the hero.

Walk

Attacks[edit | edit source]

Wither skeletons have two attack behaviors, which both inflict Wither to heroes for two seconds. After wither skeletons hit a hero, they retreat.

Basic attack

Stabs with their sword, dealing light damage.

Basic attack
Strong attack

After performing a basic attack, slashes heroes sideways with their sword, dealing moderate damage. Wither Skeletons always switch to a basic attack after a strong attack.

Strong attack
Target lock

Wither skeletons turn to "lock onto the hero" if they run more than fifteen blocks[verify] away. Once triggered, their charge speed is slightly increased and they no longer retreat after hitting. Instead, they will continuously attack the hero until their aggression is exhausted.

Novelty animation

If the hero is surrounded by three or more wither skeletons and has already been attacked by some of them, a wither skeleton that has retreated or is outside the battlefield will do a call out behavior called "Novelty" before their next attack, as one of the easter eggs in the game.
