This is a list of Pocket Edition v0.9.0 alpha development versions.

v0.9.0 alpha build 1

v0.9.0 alpha build 1 is the first build version released for v0.9.0 alpha, and the first build released in 2014.

Additions

A shattered savanna in this version.

General

  • Added immersive mode for Android.
    • Only Android 4.4 KitKat.
      • Available on other versions with 3rd party-apps.

Gameplay

  • Superflat world type.
  • Updated create world screen - now includes Superflat, Infinite and 'old' world types.
  • Unlimited worlds.
  • New falling mechanics for sand and gravel.
  • New insta ticking of water and lava.
  • Grass and foliage colors for different biomes.
  • Water color for swamps.
  • Added more spawn eggs in creative.
  • New interact button (to make the game easier for new players).

  • Spiders.
    • Now spawn from leaves, creating a higher amount of spiders in tree-rich biomes at night.
    • Animation is now twice as fast.
    • Improved AI.

Others

  • New culling algorithm.[1][2]
  • Tile entities are saved differently.
  • New leveldb based saving format.
  • New entity handling.
  • Updated light generation.
  • Remade network code (mostly the same packages but new system).

  • Now teleport out of the way of arrows.

Monster Spawners

  • Now have breaking particles.
  • Spawners placed by the player are now empty spawners instead of pig spawners.
  • Can be configured to spawn the desired mob by using a spawn egg on one.

Render distance

  • If the player's render distance is set to a value below the minimum available in the options screen, their render distance is automatically set to the minimum available value when the game is opened.

Zombies

  • Are now neutral towards Creative mode players.
  • Now they attack the villagers
  • The AI and mechanics was changed, made much more horde-like.

  • Fire dies out faster in the jungle and roofed forests to prevent runaway fires.
  • Fixed the chunk section at 0,0,0 having a black border around it.
  • Red sand does not transform anymore into normal sand when falling.
  • Mobs are no longer the same color as the sky when the render distance is under 72 blocks.
  • Glowstone and snow layers no longer randomly rotate the textures of certain surrounding blocks.
  • Brown mushrooms do not glow anymore.
  • Diorite, granite, and andesite now drop the correct resource type.
  • Dark oak, acacia leaves, and trunks now catch fire.
  • You can now place torches on mob spawners.
  • The contents of mob spawners are saved now.

v0.9.0 alpha build 3 is the third build version released for v0.9.0 alpha.

  • Lily pads are now brighter in the inventory
  • Sheep now eat tall grass
  • No more village skyscrapers
  • Added dye recipes for all flowers
  • The low memory render distance now has an additional tick
  • Bone meal can now be applied to grass and ferns

v0.9.0 alpha build 5 is the fifth build version released for v0.9.0.

  • Loading textures in the background to avoid hiccups at runtime

  • Blocks destroyed as a result of other blocks being destroyed (topsnow, grass, etc.) emit destruction particles too
  • Added jungle wood slab recipe
  • Sand does not fall anymore through wall signs

  • Batched SetEntityMotion, EntityPos and HeadRotation packages together (down from 3000 packages per second to 150)
