The wither storm or witherstorm was an enormous, advanced wither that served as the main antagonist for the first four episodes of Season One of Minecraft: Story Mode. It was created by Ivor to get revenge against the Order of the Stone. It was constructed with three wither skulls, three soul sand, and a command block in a cross shape.
Behavior[edit | edit source]
When initially spawned, the wither storm causes a shockwave which allows it to easily push people away. This variant of the wither follows the commands of the creator: Ivor. It holds many attributes, unique only to wither storms, being able to shoot flaming wither skulls and suction powers by pulling nearby blocks into itself. However, this allows for the wither storm to gain autonomy, growing stronger and escape the influence of its creator. The more blocks it infuses with itself, the more powerful it becomes, with it eventually gaining purple tractor beams to pull larger chunks of blocks. Through its newly gained power, a defence mechanism is used by covering the weak spot (the command block) with its own body.
The path of the wither storm is not random, being programmed by Ivor to follow the amulet throughout the Overworld.
Biography[edit | edit source]
As Jesse and the others go in EnderCon hall basement, they discover a configuration of soul sand and a mysterious block. After getting out of the basement, Ivor confronts Gabriel and unleashes a wither that he can control. However, the wither grew out of control and Ivor resorts to using a special potion to stop it. The potion did not work as it was revealed that Jesse or Axel has stolen the real potion, but the wither quickly protected its command block. After failing, Ivor ran out to escape and the group, together with Gabriel, follows.
The wither storm grew in size, destroying the town. It followed Jesse and the others at Gabriel's temple. Olivia and others managed to escape through a Nether portal, but Jesse, Lukas, Petra, and Gabriel stayed behind. Due to some mishaps, both Gabriel and Petra were both caught by the wither's tractor beams, and Jesse had to choose who to save, leaving the other to be saved by Lukas. Lukas froze in fear and Jesse was hit by a tentacle which threw him/her into Lukas and both were transported through the portal, leaving the unchosen person still stuck. As the group arrived in the temple of the Order of Stone, the wither storm mysteriously followed.
After recruiting Ellegaard or Magnus in their respective locations, the wither storm arrives, causing destruction in either Redstonia or Boom Town. The wither will also arrive at the temple of the Order if the group decided to stay and sleep.
After recruiting Soren, the group distracted the wither while Jesse prepairs to use the formidi-bomb to destroy it. The wither seemingly dies, and people consumed by it emerges. As Jesse goes further at the corpse, he saw the command block still intact. The block activates and pulls Jesse, but he/she was saved by Gabriel or Petra. The block revived the wither storm.
The group escaped once again, planning to acquire an enchanting book that also contains the power of command block itself. After getting an ultimate weapon, they all confronted the wither outside Soren's fortress. They used the endermen to attack the wither, causing a hole to form which Jesse and Reuben goes into.
Inside the wither storm, Jesse and Reuben found the command block. Jesse attacked it and the tentacles around it retaliated. The insides suddenly shifted, and the command block is now on the ceiling. After arriving at the top, Jesse accidentally dropped his/her weapon and Reuben retrieved it. However, as Reuben gave it to Jesse, he was caught by a wither storm head and fell into a hole. Jesse attacked the block once more and it was destroyed, destroying the wither in the process.
As the remains of the wither fell, Jesse found Reuben, who had been gravely injured. Reuben succumbed to his injuries, and people gathered around Jesse and Reuben's remains.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
In remembrance of Reuben’s sacrifice, a memorial was erected in his honor. The event also led to the formation of the New Order of the Stone.
A town was established following the wither storm’s defeat, which later developed into Beacontown. The wither storm itself remained a significant historical event, recognized in Founding Day celebrations. Several posters at the event at Beacontown depict the wither.
Powers and abilities[edit | edit source]
The wither storm is a very powerful creature. It gained its extraordinary capabilities with the help of the command block.
Suction[edit | edit source]
In its first form, the wither storm is able to absorb only objects while it doesn't have its tractor beam.
Flaming wither skull[edit | edit source]
{ "title": "Flaming Wither Skull", "rows": [], "invimages": [], "images": [ "MCSM Wither Storm Skull.webp" ] }
The wither storm is able to shoot wither skulls the same way the ordinary wither does. Each head can fire wither skulls through its mouth.
A flaming wither skull is an amplified, fiery version of the wither skull, with a unique texture and bigger explosion. It also leaves accumulated flames behind.
Growth[edit | edit source]
The wither storm has the ability to grow parts of its body, or grow additional tentacles and heads when consuming objects. In A Block and a Hard Place it is shown that the wither storm is able to grow additional heads and tentacles inside its own body so that it can protect the command block. This ability also heals the wither's wounds.
Tractor beam[edit | edit source]
Each individual eye of the wither storm can activate a tractor beam that pulls chunks and entities into itself unless the eye is damaged. These tractor beams also trigger the endermen's agitated state due to them making direct eye contact with their face, and cause them to attack the wither storm.
Illness infliction[edit | edit source]
The wither storm have a severe form of wither, a long-term version that can only be cured by destroying the command block. The wither storm also causes mad wither, which leads to retrograde amnesia in the affected individual.
Tentacles[edit | edit source]
The wither storm has several long tentacles that it uses to attack, capture prey, and destroy blocks around to help it get to its destinations. The tight grip of these tentacles can destroy even obsidian.
Revivability[edit | edit source]
The wither storm can be revived if its command block is left intact. Despite a point-blank blast from the formidi-bomb leaving the wither storm seemingly "dead", the command block reactivates which revives the wither.
Splitting[edit | edit source]
Thanks to the command block, segments severed from the wither storm can breathe new life as two progenies linked to the command block housed inside the main body. Once the command block is destroyed, its progenies die with the original.
Amulet tracking[edit | edit source]
The wither storm is able to track the Order's amulet as long as it is not in the Nether or in the End.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Inside the wither storm can be found decayed citizens, some of them being named characters. They are Jens, Lydia, Otis, Owen, Schoolboy, and Reuben (human).
- The terms "wither storm" and "witherstorm" are interchangeable; in fact, both terms were used to refer to it in Minecraft: Story Mode. The former was used in the first and second episodes, and the latter was used in third to fifth episodes.
- When the wither storm's middle head mutated, its eye color changed to cyan, in contrast to its main color, purple.
