Appearance
Edit
Jack has dirty-blonde hair and a beard, brown eyebrows, and one black pupil and one gray pupil that he calls his "bad eye." He wears a blue vest called the Vest of Five Fists which was gifted to him by the Singing Clerics of Try'bal Cliff.[1] Jack also wore black gloves, white pants with brown and blue stripes, and black shoes. His left eye is determinantly damaged if Jesse chooses to help Petra get her sword instead of rescuing him in the Sea Temple, and he will have an eye patch for the rest of the game.
In Jailhouse Block, if Jack doesn't become Romeo's "champion", he wears an orange prisoner jumpsuit with the sleeves ripped off.
Jack can get a red gauntlet and have his clothing be mainly red in color in Jailhouse Block, if Jesse chose him to get the giant clock in Giant Consequences. The gauntlet will later be removed by Romeo, but the "champion" clothing will remain for the rest of the game until the later part of Above and Beyond.
In Below the Bedrock, if Jesse refuses to give their swords to PorkChop, Jack will fall off a cliff and have his clothing be mainly dirty; his hair will become messy and will have his clothing mainly covered in dirt and grime.
Personality
Edit
Jack is a resilient fighter and cares for and protects his friends (such as Nurm and Petra). He constantly blames himself for the death of his other friends, traumatized after Vos and Sammy died. If Jesse chooses to leave Nurm behind, he becomes determined to get him back. He is resentful towards the Admins, first refusing to believe that the Admin existed in Hero in Residence and doubts Xara's credibility in Jailhouse Block, believing that all Admins act like Romeo, who caused the deaths of Vos and Sammy from his original group of friends.
Jack is also an experienced adventurer. He is shown to be very proud of his adventures, often telling his stories and recalling his experiences with various societies. However, a lot of his claims are shown to be either improvised or punned.
Biography
Edit
Childhood
Edit
Jack grew up as an amateur hero in a town full of them, each with their own gimmick and legacy behind them. In this town, there was a prestigious academy few could successfully attend, and a lesser, accessible school for people deemed "sidekicks." His dream was to become a great hero in his own right, but ended up on the sidekick track due to an impulsive yet selfless personality; he "simply wanted to help people." For one reason or another, Jack ended up being assigned to "stick boy," a position requiring gathering materials for other people to craft equiptment. During this period, he befriended an alchemist prodigy named Vos, who wanted to become a sidekick instead.
Everything came to a head when a "big bad villain" managed to defeat the town's heroes, leaving only the sidekicks. Jack and Vos embarked on a quest to defeat them, meeting the cartographer Nurm and master thief Sammy. Using a map designed by the former, the four were able to locate the threat at hand, presumably restoring power to the town's heroes.[2] Following this adventure, the four remained friends for the rest of their lives, and opened a business together.

Jack keeps his friend Sammy's parrot in his map shop.[3] When Jesse spotted the parrot, he/she stated that he/she had been worried all the parrots had left Beacontown. Jack claimed that Archie would never leave. When asked if Archie was his, Jack responded that he was watching the parrot for a friend, choosing not to provide further details.

— Jack to Petra and Nurm

- Eric Stirpe wanted Jack and Nurm to have an entire mini-series spin-off of Minecraft: Story Mode.[4]
- Jack is able to understand villagerese, as shown when he communicates with Nurm. However, he does not communicate in villagerese because he has a terrible accent.[5]
- Stella calling Jack "Jacques" might be a reference to the first draft of the game, where Jack was depicted as a person who insisted that his name was pronounced "Jacques."[6]
- In some scenes of the game, Jack's good eye/only eye looks very dark green instead of black.

2 - So I’ve talked about this in bits and pieces, but Jack’s backstory is that he was a scrappy wannabe hero in a town that was like a superhero story and a fantasy world blended into one - Taverns and quests and things but with more outlandish characters with gimmicks and things. This town had a big academy for heroes that was very tough to get into, and also a school for the sidekicks that weren’t good enough to be heroes or just didn’t want to be in the spotlight. That sidekick academy is where Jack and Vos met - Vos was a potions and enchantments expert who wanted to be on the sidekick track, and Jack was stuck as a “stick boy”, gathering the sticks to make swords and other equipment for the heroes. He really, really, wanted to be on the hero track, but he was just too impulsive and also didn’t have a “gimmick” like a lot of other heroes. He just.. wanted to help people. He finally gets his shot when a big bad villain comes to town who drains the power from heroes so only the sidekicks are left to save the day. This was also the adventure where they met Nurm (the latest in a long line of talenting mapmakers who is in a broody emo phase of rejecting his family business, and who they need to talk into helping them make a map to follow the big bad) and Sammy (a master thief and con artist who could be a hero and star of the hero academy if she didn’t think they were all such dorks)" – Stirpicus, March 17, 2024, Tumblr
