Tutorial:Fern farming
Fern farming is a process of multiplying ferns by applying bone meal to existing ferns and mining the increased layer with shears.
Why bother?[edit | edit source]
Ferns, like grass and flowers, are natural blocks that are well-suited for outdoor decoration. However, being limited to jungles and cold biomes, they may not be easily obtainable in large quantities without a farm. Ferns can also be composted.
Manual farming[edit | edit source]
Using bone meal on a fern causes it to grow into a large fern, which can then be mined with shears. The process can then be repeated.
AFK farming[edit | edit source]
The system can be automated with a dispenser with bone meal and a minecart with hopper system to pick up the ferns. A larger fern farm is possible, which requires a minecart system to move the player around. A hopper clock can be used to dispense shears after the previous set of shears is broken.
