Tutorial:Cat gift farming
A cat gift farm can be utilized for the farming and collection of rabbits feet, rabbit hide, string, rotten flesh, feathers, raw chicken and phantom membranes.
While these items can be farmed by other methods, this farm can prove useful when playing in peaceful mode or if the game rule doInsomnia
is set to False
as it is the only way to renewably obtain phantom membranes. This is also only one of two methods to farm rotten flesh in peaceful, alongside fish farming.
Mechanics Edit

When the player sleeps, any owned, standing tamed cats move toward their owner and go to sleep. Upon waking up in the morning, there is a 70% chance for the tamed cat to give the player a gift from the cat_morning_gift.json
loot table. If the cat is unrestricted, the gift will be placed either on the base of the bed or the block where the player stands up after sleeping.

In the event that there are multiple tamed, standing cats, only the tamed cat that sleeps on the bed will provide a gift. In Java Edition this can be circumvented by preventing all cats from reaching or teleporting to the player by placing them in minecarts or boats. In this case all cats in a 10 block radius (circular, centered around the space above the head of the player's bed) will have a 70% chance to provide the player with a gift. This allows for large scale cat gift farms. On Bedrock Edition, only one cat may give a gift per night, so only small, one cat gift farms are possible.
It is important to note that for multiplayer, since each cat can only be owned by one player, only the cats owner can use this type of farm, regardless of the design.
Designs Edit
Ilmango's design (java edition) Edit

Ilmango's design is a large scale design that utilizes multiple trapped cats for high item rates. This 672 cat farm produces approximately 11 stacks of phantom membranes per hour and approximately 54 stacks per hour for the other materials. While this farm does involve the use of 672 cats, it could easily be modified to use either more or less based on your needs and performance.
Cat storage Edit
Cats are stored in minecarts that are placed compactly into rows, with each cat in the row being 1 block apart, and each new row staggered. These rows are placed within a 10 block (circular) radius surrounding the head of the player's bed. This is done on multiple vertical layers by positioning a layer of cats, and then encapsulating them in a layer of glass, pushed down inside of them with pistons. The next layer of cats can then sit on this new layer of glass.

Bed chamber Edit
A gap is left in the bottom center of the farm for the bed and player chamber to be placed. A ladder connects to the top of the farm for entry and exit to the 1x2 chamber which has a bed placed at the bottom. Next to the bed, there is a 2x1 vertical space where the player will be ejected from the bed upon waking up, with a pressure plate on the floor. This pressure plate connects to a redstone line that travels up a glass stairway to a sticky piston that is positioned two blocks above the player. This piston is ready to push a block of glass down on to the player once they are ejected onto the pressure plate, placing them into a crawl state. This ensures the player will be looking at the bed ready to hop back into the bed the next night.
It is important to note that to run this farm automatically, the interact button must be constantly held down to enter a bed, but this only works when the button is rebounded to a key on the keyboard, not the default right mouse button.
Item collection Edit
Items are collected via a large glass block elevator and water streams. As the farm is built the cats are placed inside of glass blocks by pushing glass down into them with pistons. This creates a solid cylinder of glass completely encapsulating the cats. When the cats gift an item of a morning, the item will appear at their location, submerged in the block. This causes the items to be ejected upward into a water stream above, which transports the item into a hopper collection system. To ensure no items pop out the side of the glass cylinder, a larger rectangle of glass is built around the border of the farm.

Rays Works' design (bedrock and java edition) Edit

Rays Works' design is a simple, small-scale design that only uses one cat. You could use this farm as your main bed or in conjunction with another farm that you would use during the day. This farm will only produce one random item in the above loot table per night, so it is much better suited to players who only need a small amount of items from the farm. Note that this farm needs a slight modification to work on Bedrock Edition.
Cat storage Edit
A cat is trapped inside a 1x1x1 area surrounded by glass on all but one side, where the end of a bed will act as a wall. This cat is tied to a fence with a lead to stop it from teleporting out when the player moves away. It is important to place carpet on the glass and any surface below the farm in an 11x11 square centered around the cat as well. This prevents it from teleporting out when giving a gift if there is any available space.
For Bedrock Edition players, the carpet teleportation prevention is not necessary, but the lead is still required.
Item collection Edit
Items are collected by placing two hoppers; one under the foot of the bed, pointing into the chest, and the other sitting next to the foot of the bed, pointing into the first hopper. This accounts for some randomness in where the item may appear of a morning.
For Bedrock Edition players, the collection system will need to be adjusted. Simply remove the current hoppers and then replace the block under the cat with a new hopper. Point this hopper into a re-positioned chest.
