Spring to Life is an upcoming game drop that is set to release on March 25, 2025.[1] It adds warm and cold variants to various passive animal mobs, new foliage blocks to biomes, and ambience features such as sounds and falling leaf particles. The contents of this drop are available in snapshots in Java Edition, and it is also available in betas and Previews in Bedrock Edition.

During development, the update was referred to as the "Spring Drop 2025", and "Drop 1 2025" as the name of the Bedrock Edition experiment. The final name and release date of the update were revealed during Minecraft LIVE – March 2025, on March 22, 2025.

Notable features

New blocks

Leaf Litter

  • A new type of decorative block which can be found in the forests, dark forests and wooded badlands.
    • Can have different amounts of leaves in one block space.
      • Up to four leaf litter pieces can be placed in the same block space.
      • Placing a leaf litter into an already placed leaf litter block increases the amount of leaves.
  • Can be placed in four orientations.
  • Can be created by smelting any type of leaves block.
  • Can be used as fuel for smelting (half an item).
  • Has unique block sounds.
  • Can be washed away.
  • Can be broken with any tool.
  • Tinted based on which biome it's in.

Wildflowers

  • A new type of flower which grow in birch forests, old growth birch forests and meadows.
    • Can have different amounts of flowers in one block space.
      • Up to four wildflowers can be placed in the same block space.
      • Placing a wildflower into an already placed wildflowers block increases the amount of flowers.
      • Using bone meal on wildflowers will produce more wildflowers.
  • Can be placed in four orientations.
  • Can be crafted into yellow dye.
  • Can be washed away.
  • Can be broken with any tool.

Bush

Firefly Bush

  • Generates in swamps and near rivers.
  • When it's light level 13 or lower, glowing firefly particles appear around the firefly bush, up to 5 blocks away.
  • Can be used in the composter, with a 30% chance to add a layer.
  • Using bone meal will generate a neighboring firefly bush next to it if possible.
  • Emits a light level of 2.
  • Can be instantly broken without any particular tool.
  • Found in patches of 2 to 5.

Cactus Flower

  • A new type of flower which has a chance of generating on cactuses in deserts and all types of badlands.
  • Can be placed on cactus blocks or any block which has center support at the top of the block.
  • Has a chance of growing on cactus blocks.
    • If a cactus is one or two blocks high the flower has a 10% chance to grow instead of the cactus getting higher.
    • If a cactus is three blocks or higher the flower has a 25% chance to grow.
    • Cactus flowers will only grow if they have space on all four sides.
  • Can be used in the composter.
  • Can be used to craft 1 pink dye.

Short Dry Grass

  • Is one block high.
  • Generates in the desert and all types of badlands.
  • Can be placed on types of sand, terracotta and dirt blocks like the dead bush.
  • Can be bone mealed.
  • Using bone meal on short dry grass grows it into a tall dry grass.
  • Can be used in the composter.
  • Sheep can eat short dry grass to regrow its wool.
  • Can be used as fuel for smelting.

Tall Dry Grass

  • Is one block high.
  • Generates in the desert and all types of badlands.
  • Can be placed on types of sand, terracotta and dirt blocks like the dead bush.
  • Can be bone mealed.
  • Using bone meal on tall dry grass places a neighbouring short dry grass next to the block if possible.
  • Can be used in the composter.
  • Sheep can eat tall dry grass to regrow its wool.
  • Can be used as fuel for smelting.

  • A variant of the egg laid by the cold chicken variant.
  • Can spawn the cold chicken variant when hatched.

Brown Egg

  • A variant of the egg laid by the warm chicken variant.
  • Can spawn the warm chicken variant when hatched.

Changed items Bundle

  • Now generates in village chest loot.

  • New pig variants have been added. The variant is determined by the biome they spawn in.
    • Temperate Pig: The pre-existing pig variant.
      • Spawns by default where the cold and warm pig variants do not spawn.
    • Cold Pig: A variant that spawns in certain cold biomes.[info 1]
    • Warm Pig: A variant that spawns in certain warm biomes.[info 2]
    • When bred by a player, a baby pig variant will not be chosen by the current biome, but instead randomly be selected from one of its parent's variants.

Cow

  • New Cow variants have been added. The variant is determined by the biome they spawn in.
    • Temperate Cow: The pre-existing cow variant.
      • Spawns by default where the cold and warm cow variants do not spawn.
      • New texture and model.

Changed mobs Cartographer

  • Cartographers now offer the following items:
  • Sell 7 new maps pointing to each village type as well as jungle temples and witch huts.
    • Different biome cartographers will have different selections of these maps, available at Apprentice level.
  • Cartographers from different village types sell a different range of maps and colored banners.
  • Prices and quantities for some trades have been adjusted.
  • Trial chamber and ocean monument maps remain available at Journeyman level.
  • Colored banners are sold at Expert level, with the range varying by biome.
  • A woodland mansion map is guaranteed at Master level, along with the globe banner pattern.

Wandering Trader

  • Improved prices, more trade options, and larger stock amounts for many items.
  • The ability to buy basic supplies from players, allowing players to earn emeralds by helping the trader prepare for their next journey.
  • New items for sale may include:
    • Logs (Acacia, Birch, Dark Oak, Jungle, Oak, Spruce, Pale Oak, Cherry)
    • Enchanted Iron Pickaxe
    • Potion of Invisibility
  • The wandering trader will also offer to buy two items from the following list:

Sheep

Mooshroom and Brown Mooshroom

  • Changed texture and extended snout by one pixel.

Camel

Wolf

  • Added new sound personalities: Big, Cute, Puglin, Angry, Grumpy, and Sad. The original wolf sounds remain and are now known as Classic. These sound variants are unrelated to their visual variants.
    • Wolves receive a random sound variant when they spawn.

World generation Fallen tree[Java Edition only]

  • Fallen trees are a new decorative variant of trees.
  • Fallen trees come in four different wood type variants:
  • Birch fallen trees can come in a shorter version or a longer version.
  • Some fallen trees can be decorated with mushroom or vines.
  • Fallen trees can be found in all biomes where their standing tree variant grow, except the following:
