Minecraft Live

Minecraft Live (formerly MINECON Earth and MINECON Live, sometimes stylized as Minecraft LIVE) is a semiannual livestreamed event that features news about Minecraft updates and other aspects of the franchise. The official Minecraft Live web page is available at minecraft.net/live. Prior to 2024, the event took place annually.

Minecraft Live 2020	October 3, 2020	02:13:54	Annexet, Stockholm, Sweden	Marked 10 years of MINECON and marked the return of Mob Vote since 2017. Revealed Caves & Cliffs for the 1.17 update, featuring revamped cave generation, dripstone caves, lush caves, copper, amethyst and telescope (spyglass). New mobs such as axolotls. Added incorporates features from the 2019 Biome Vote, including new mountains generation, powder snow, and goats. Announced creator's features for making add-ons.
Minecraft Live 2021	October 16, 2021	02:15:26		Revealed The Wild Update for the 1.19 update, featuring the finalized deep dark content (originally planned for Caves & Cliffs), mangrove-related content such as its biome, wood set, propagule and mud. New mobs such as tadpoles and frogs, come in 3 different variants. Revealed Caves & Cliffs - Part II for the 1.18 update, with revamped cave generation, new moutains generation and improved world generation. (originally planned for Caves & Cliffs - Part I). Revealed Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition coming to Xbox Game Pass. Revealed the 2021 Mob Vote winner - the Allay, which will later be added with The Wild Update.
Minecraft Live 2022	October 15, 2022	01:51:37		Revealed gameplay content for the 1.20 update (later named Trails & Tales.), featuring new bamboo set, hanging signs, chiseled bookselves and the camels. Revealed first hands-on and gameplay of the new spinoff game - Minecraft Legends. Revealed Minecraft Dungeons: Season 3 - Fauna Faire. Revealed the 2022 Mob Vote winner - the Sniffer, which will later be added with the Trails & Tales update.
Minecraft Live 2023	October 15, 2023	01:10:39	Mighty Media Studios, Bellavue, Washington	Revealed gameplay content for the 1.21 update (later named Tricky Trials.), featuring the trial chambers, new decorative blocks (copper and tuff variants), the trial spawner, the breeze and the crafter. Revealed Minecraft Legends 1.18.14350 and "BBC Planet Earth III" DLC for Minecraft Education. Revealed the 2023 Mob Vote winner - the Armadillo, which will later be added with the Armored Paws drop.
Minecraft Live 2024	September 28, 2024	01:27:10	Mojang Headquarters, Stockholm, Sweden	Revealed gameplay content for the Winter drop 2024 (later named Garden Awakens), featuring the creakings and pale garden biome. Revealed Bundles of Bravery drop including Hardcore mode for Bedrock Edition and bundles. Revealed more scences and exclusive information regarding A Minecraft Movie. Revealed more information regarding Minecraft Experience: Villager Rescue. Had the first Villager News since MINECON Live 2019.
Minecraft LIVE - March 2025	March 22, 2025	01:19:55		Revealed gameplay content for the Summer drop 2025, featuring the dried ghasts, ghastlings, happy ghasts, harnesses and the player locator bar. Revealed the name of the Spring drop 2025: Spring to Life, as well as its release date: March 25, 2025. Revealed the visual upgrade Vibrant Visuals coming to both Java and Bedrock Edition. Revealed a new Bedrock Edition live event server based on A Minecraft Movie as well as earning a cape. Revealed more scences and exclusive information regarding A Minecraft Movie.

Format

MINECON Earth / MINECON Live

• Initially organized as live events featuring guest appearances, interactive audience participation, diverse panels, and mini-games.  

• Locations varied, with the events held in different parts of the world.  
• Livestreams often ran for about 1-3 hours.

2017–2018

• MINECON was broadcast live globally for the first time with MINECON Earth, allowing people from around the world to tune in.

2019

• MINECON Earth was renamed to MINECON Live, clarifying its distinction from the new spinoff game, Minecraft Earth.

Minecraft Live

2020–2021

• MINECON Live was renamed as Minecraft Live and continues to be used today.
• Initially planned as a live event running alongside Minecraft Festival, but delayed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  

• Livestreams often ran for about 1-2 hours and still performed live.

• Content included previews of new updates, behind-the-scenes insights, Q&A sessions, and news from the Minecraft franchise.

2022

• Community votes shifted from X (formerly Twitter) platforms like the Minecraft Launcher, minecraft.net, and annual Bedrock Edition live event servers, expanding accessibility.  

• Updates were shared incrementally to address past mistakes, offering a glimpse into the progress rather than complete plans upfront.

2023

• Transitioned from a performed live to a pre-recorded format, but still pretend to be performed live.

• Livestreams became more briefly, focusing primarily on franchise updates and announcements.

2024

• Livestreams often ran for about 1 hour or less and have now transitioned to a fully pre-recorded format.
• Lydia Winters made her final appearance as host before departing from Mojang Studios in October 2024.
• Community votes were cancelled and no longer part of Minecraft Live, leading to the lack of community interaction.

2025

• There is no designated host for the main show. The Deep Dig is hosted by Vu Bui.
• Evolved into a biannual event, occurring sometimes in spring and winter.

• The format emphasized delivering updates and announcements for the Minecraft franchise.

Community votes

From 2017 to 2023, Minecraft Live usually featured a community vote, which would let the community decide about which biome or mob should be added to the game.
