Usable items

Goats are neutral mobs found in mountains.

Spawning

Groups of two to three goats spawn above opaque blocks on mountains at the surface at a light level of 7 or higher. Goats spawn individually and more uncommonly after the world generation. There is a five percent chance to a goat spawn as a baby goat. In Java Edition, when a goat is spawned or born, it has a 2% chance of being a screaming goat. They look identical to all other goats, the only difference being that they make screaming sounds.

Drops

Goats drop 1 goat horn when struck against a solid block (can be dropped two times per goat).‌[Bedrock Edition only]

Adult goats drop upon death 1–3XP when killed by a player or tamed wolf, while 1–7XP is dropped upon successful breeding.

Killing a baby goat yields no items nor experience.

Behavior

A goat jumps up to 10 blocks high into the air. This usually happens if the goat is trying to cross an obstacle like a small hole in the ground or powder snow.

Goats take 20HP♥ × 10 less fall damage and avoid walking into powder snow. While avoiding walking over powder snow, they also might jump over it, sometimes even in a narrow jumping area.

Every 10–15 seconds, if a goat has seen a mob (except for other goats) or player who has not moved during the checking interval, it attacks by ramming from up to 16 blocks away. After choosing something to ram against, the goat performs a small charging animation, then runs quickly toward the target, dealing nine blocks of knockback from the collision. If the attack knocks the player off a mountain peak, the player can suffer a damaging or even fatal fall. Baby goats deal a knockback of 4.5 blocks. Goats do not attack back, they flee when harmed.

Milking

A goat is milked by using a bucket on it, yielding a milk bucket.

Breeding

Main article: Breeding

Goats follow players that are within ten blocks who are holding wheat. If adult goats are fed wheat, they enter love mode and breed; the player is granted 1–7 experience. The time of growth of a baby goat is shortned by ten percent when each wheat is fed.
