An error is a piece of text that appears on the screen to alert the player of some form of mistake or complication.

Command errors Edit

Syntax error: Unexpected at A command has been misused. Bedrock Edition only
Unknown command. Please check that the command exists and that you have permission to use it. This command does not exist. Both
Incorrect Argument Unknown Java Edition only
No targets matched selector A target was not specified, like if you use any commands, but you forgot to use @. Bedrock Edition only
Too many targets matched selector The command /tp @s @e was used. Bedrock Edition only
Cannot place blocks outside world This chunk is not loaded yet. Bedrock Edition only
Players cannot be killed while they are in creative mode. Players cannot be killed in Creative. Shows "Removed" in Minecraft Education. Bedrock Edition only
You do not have permission to use this command The command requires a higher permission level than the player possesses to be used. Bedrock Edition only
Unable to summon object Players cannot summon hostile mobs in peaceful mode. Bedrock Edition only
Failed to place structure The location does not support the structure. Java Edition only
At least one of your resource or behavior packs failed to load. Any resource or behavior packs cannot be loaded. Both
The number you have entered (<NUMBER>) is too big, it must be at most <NUMBER>. Displayed when a player attempts to enter a number over a certain limit. Both
<NUMBER> is not a valid number The number of blocks can't be filled using /fill command. Both

Chat errors Edit

These errors appear in the chat,‌[Bedrock Edition only] or action bar.‌[Java Edition only]

You may not rest now, there are monsters nearby There are monsters near the bed, which prevents sleeping. Both
Bed is too far away You are too far away from the bed to go to bed. Both
You can only sleep at night and during thunderstorms The player cannot sleep during the day, unless there is a thunderstorm. Both
This bed is occupied The player can't sleep, as there is another player in this bed already. Both
You have no home bed or charged Respawn Anchor, or it was obstructed When the player returned to Overworld after defeating the Ender Dragon Both
The height limit for building is 128 blocks When placing on a block on Y=129 or above in the Nether. Bedrock Edition only

Errors in Legacy Console Edition Edit

This feature is exclusive to Legacy Console Edition.
 

There are errors that appear in the middle of the screen, similar to death messages.

Name Meaning
You may not rest now, there are monsters nearby There are some monsters too close to the bed.
You can only sleep at night Players cannot sleep during the day.
You can't summon enemies in peaceful mode. Players cannot summon hostile mobs in peaceful mode.
This animal can't enter love mode. The maximum animals that can breed has been reached (except for: mooshrooms, chickens, and wolves).
You may not rest now; the bed is too far away The player is not close enough to the bed.

Error hints Edit

These errors appear in boxes similar to the hints found in the tutorial.

Name Meaning
You cannot do this action until you have completed the tutorial. The player needs to complete the tutorial in order to get access to the other areas in the tutorial.
You do not have all the ingredients to make this item. The player needs more materials to make this item.

Special errors Edit

These errors are only found in the menus that indicate the errors, and not while playing the game in a world.

There was a Problem loading this world. Worlds from newer versions can't generate in older versions. Both
