Steve is one of the main protagonists who appears in the upcoming 2025 film A Minecraft Movie, modeled after the eponymous player character. Portrayed by Jack Black, Steve was originally born on Earth, eventually becoming the first human to step foot into the Overworld, ultimately spending the rest of his life there amongst the villagers.

Appearance

Steve dons a blue shirt that is carried over from his video game counterpart, albeit fulling covering his neck whereas it is visible on his voxel model in the game.

Steve has much larger beard compared to his counterpart's shorter goatee beard. In scenes of Steve first entering the mine and discovering the Overworld, Black's beard is dyed completely brown. In later scenes, however, the beard is untouched with visible gray hairs.

Biography

As a child, Steve lived on Earth and "yearned for the mines", but was constantly prevented from entering by an old man. As an adult, Steve finally entered the mines and accidentally discovered the Overworld.

In the Overworld, Steve meets and tames a wolf that he names Dennis. He eventually becomes an expert in the unique functions of the Overworld and lives in a village alongside its villagers, making several useful redstone contraptions such as Steve's Lava Chicken! as well as an advanced underground mineshaft.

Many years later, he meets Henry, Dawn, Natalie, and Garrett when they enter the Overworld, helping them understand their surroundings on their second day. He ultimately ends up recruiting the four to help him defend the Overworld against the Piglins.

• Prior to portraying Steve, Jack Black voiced the audio book of Minecraft: The Island, which featured Guy, a character who parallels the video game's Steve.
