Vibrant Visuals[1] is an upcoming graphics mode adding directional light and pixel-aligned shadows. It is planned to be added to Bedrock Edition via Deferred Rendering Pipeline[2] in the next few months, with Java Edition support afterwards. They will be implemented as a local setting, meaning it will be an option in a player's settings, rather than the edit world settings.[3]

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

Vibrant Visuals only affects the graphical appearance of Minecraft; it has no effect on gameplay. However, enabling Vibrant Visuals on lower end devices (especially with high render distance) can decrease game performance, which can affect the game experience.

Water shaders[edit | edit source]

Water now mirrors the surrounding area using Screen Space Reflections (SSR) technology. Because of how SSR works, if the object is not on screen, it will not be reflected. The reflections can be turned off for additional performance boost; this does not affect sun and moon reflections.

Caustics appear on the underwater floor when it is hit by the sunlight.

Specular highlights[edit | edit source]

Block textures now feature an additional layer, allowing for variance in how reflective each pixel of the texture is which adds more depth to flat blocks.

Emissive textures[edit | edit source]

Blocks and entities such as spiders and sculk are now emissive, meaning they produce their own glow even when in a dark environment. Not all emissive blocks cast actual light.

Point lights off (top) vs on (bottom).

Directional lighting and shadows[edit | edit source]

Shadows are cast by the sun, causing more realistic lighting according to the time of day. Unlike shadows in most shaders, shadows will be pixelated to match the resolution of other textures. Light will also shine through glass panes and any other supported transparent block, making builds look and feel more interesting and alive.

If "Render Dragon Features for Creators" experiment toggle is enabled and point lights are turned on in the settings, additional light entities, like torches, cast dynamic shadows as well. Enabling this may lower the performance noticeably.

Applying[edit | edit source]

Vibrant Visuals can only be applied in worlds with the "Vibrant Visuals" experiment enabled. This can be enabled in the "Experiments" tab in the edit world or create new world screen.

Vibrant Visuals can be toggled on in the video settings in the pause menu, in the graphics mode dropdown menu. Other settings relating to Vibrant Visuals can also be changed here.

If playing multiplayer, not everyone needs to have it activated to play in the world; one player could have it activated, whilst 3 other players could have it inactive.
