- If you're going to migrate a feature to another wiki, you need to figure out how it's done on this one. Find the feature you want in the page source. Look at the source for that feature. You will likely eventually find a module written in Lua.

About biomes players can spawn in
In this undo you stated that players cannot spawn in rivers or oceans. I just wanted to make you aware that this may or may not be true. I spawned at the bottom of a body of water (don't know if it was a river or ocean) the other day, which surprised me. It might have something to do with rivers being widened beyond their calculated boundaries after generation, which is something I've noticed recently (and which might be related to biome smoothing), or it might simply be a bug, I don't know. — Auldrick (talk · contribs) 19:23, 16 February 2022 (UTC)
- I spawned in a small-but-deep pond back in 1.16, which surprised me greatly, especially since the edge of the pond was 1 block higher than the water. A newbie player would have drowned drowned trying to get out! This was repeatable for that seed. The seed no longer generates the same terrain in 1.18.
- Even if you can now spawn in rivers and oceans, it doesn't seem to be commonplace. The section I restored had been removed with an explanation that a player can now spawn in any biome. I am skeptical that is true. Even if it is, that doesn't warrant wholesale removal of the section. Instead, it should be updated to describe what actually happens, with probabilities. Even something as simple as "the nearest valid spawning biome to 0,0" is better than nothing at all. Amatulic (talk) 19:44, 16 February 2022 (UTC)

I assume you know that if you're watching a page and get a notification for it, you won't get any more notifications for it until you either visit it or you reset your watchlist. On the "bred with unstackable item" argument
Hi Amatulic, I'm sorry that I'm mentioning this a little bit too late. More than half a year ago, I added a trivia saying "Axolotl is the only mob bred with a non-stackable item" to the axolotl page. I added the trivia twice, and either time it was removed by you after a while. Your remarks on the trivia was "one rather obscure and useless factoid". Do you think this fact is not worth mentioning, or are there other reasons? The reason I addressed this is because of how difficult it is to breed axolotls, since you have to constantly switch inventory slots as you breed them. Windwend (talk) 01:05, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
- Well, one can come up with all sorts of facts that don't really matter, like "witches are the only mob that has a pointed hat" or "axolotls are the only mob that fight drowned to the death". How do you patrol a page?
Yo Amatulic, long time no see. I recently found out I have the Pro status, and looking through my achievements, I still haven't patrolled a single page. I have no clue how to patrol a page, nor what it even is, so can you tell me what it is and how to do it? Vwoot (talk) 09:53, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
- "Pro" is something that Fandom automatically designates if you exceed a certain threshold of activity here. All it does it put an icon next to your signature. Your activity is automatically checked periodically and the icon can disappear or stay, depending on activity.
- Before you're a patroller, "autopatrol" is a user right that causes all of your edits to be marked "patrolled" automatically. Generally editors who have demonstrated efforts to combat vandalism and clean up pages to comply with this wiki's editorial guidelines can get the autopatroller right. It isn't automatic. It must be granted by an administrator. I occasionally go to the MCW:ADMIN page to request that autopatrol be given to certain high-volume editors that I don't want to see come up in my list of unpatrolled edits to check, because their appearance makes it harder to find vandals, and it's a hassle to mark their edits as patrolled.
- "Patroller" is another user right that also must be granted by an administrator. When you view a diff, or view your watchlist, the edits are marked as patrolled or unpatrolled, and you can filter your watchlist to show only unpatrolled edits. This makes it easy to find vandalism, which are typically unpatrolled edits made by new or unregistered users. Good edits can be marked as "patrolled" so they don't appear in the list in the future. - You patrol a page by viewing a diff and clicking on the "mark this page patrolled" link. Or if you have the popups extension installed so you can view diffs by hovering over links in your watchlist, the "mark patrolled" link is there too. Why did you delete so many pages?

- I didn't delete anything, I am not an administrator and I don't have the ability to delete articles. I simply proposed some tutorial pages for deletion, and in some cases I even started a talk page discussion. An administrator apparently agreed with the rationale and deleted them later. These were pages that violated the video policy because the only substantive content in them was a youtube video. A tutorial shouldn't be a youtube directory; in fact ideally a tutorial should exist as a stand-alone piece without any youtube links.
- I advise you also not to list any tutorials on the Tutorials page or in Template:Tutorials until they are actually fleshed out enough to teach something. I removed links for a few that I found that were essentially content-free one-liner placeholders. Amatulic (talk) 06:04, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
Types of distance
In reference to Talk:Tropical_Fish#Spawning_range_around_player, cylindrical distance is very much a thing in this game XD like for instance random block ticks in Java, which are only sent to blocks whose parent chunks' centers are less than 128 blocks from the player horizontally, aka a "chunky cylinder". By my count, there are at least 7(!) different distance measurements used in different parts of the game: cylindrical/horizontal/circular/2D distance, spherical/3D/"Euclidean" distance, 3D taxicab distance (redstone dust block update?), horizontal taxicab distance (simulation distance on bedrock?), horizontal square distance ("Chebyshev"? "chessboard"? like simulation distance on java, or the shape of the spawn chunks which is a square region with 11 chunk radius), 3D boxy distance (range of raid activation?), and "AABB inflated bounding box-to-bounding box" distance.
Even with Euclidean distance, sometimes it's from center-of-feet-to-center-of-feet, other times it's from center-of-eyes-to-center-of-eyes, and one time in the source code I even found a center-of-eyes-to-center-of-feet calculation! I am perpetually confused whenever somebody says "*this* range" or "*that* distance" and doesn't specify which type XD Or worse, writes "24 cylindrical" here or here, when they either made a mistake with testing, or there is a difference between Java and Bedrock for no reason, or the algorithm changed in some random snapshot. I think it is extremely valuable to always clarify (if known) whether the distance is spherical or cylindrical or boxy, even if this is not "proper" english prose :D I am open to using other particular phrasing if you prefer, as long as it retains the distinction between the 7 distance types. 193.32.127.213 10:09, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
- I completely agree that it's important to know whether the distance is a horizontal radius, a sphere radius, a box, or taxicab. I don't believe we need to make a distinction, however, between eye-to-foot, foot-to-eye, or foot-to-foot distance; for the purpose of an article the difference between eye-to-eye and eye-to-foot becomes negligible for distances greater than 3 or 4 blocks, so these distinctions don't matter.
- When I was testing the range at which lightning rods divert lightning (which produced File:Lightning distribution BE.png, I didn't expect to discover that simulation distance in Bedrock Edition is taxicab, but the image is unmistakable, and resulted in my writing the taxicab distance and simulation distance articles. I assume the Bedrock simulation distance is purely a horizontal distance and not a 3D taxicab octahedron because I was floating high up enough above the lightning rod to affect the simulation distance if it were 3D and not horizontal.

- In any case, I think flat survival in Bedrock Edition is an interesting topic. Every time I've done it, playing with my son, we always start out with a chest that's strategically filled with certain items, like a water bucket and lava bucket, seeds, and so on.
- The outline you wrote sounds like a real grind. While trying to get food, you gotta make a mob farm with nothing but wood and dirt. I'm trying to imagine how that would work without water. Probably one needs a checkerboard pattern of dirt and trapdoors on a sky platform while you gather loot from the mobs that fall through. And I know from experience that even in hard mode, even with a steady supply of zombies coming from a spawner, it takes forever (many hours) to accumulate enough iron equipment to smelt into nuggets for one iron ingot, let alone enough ingots for a bucket or cauldron. I don't believe it's feasible in Easy or Normal mode.

- About the flat survival you are right, it is a very interesting topic. I'm surprised you knew about because the checkerboard pattern because you are right about that as well as that is the only way to make a mob farm with dirt and wood that I know of. You will also need to shovel all grass within a 50 or 60 (I think) block radius to prevent mobs from spawning, with only wooden shovels. That alone will take many hours of grinding.
- However you missed 2 crucial details. The first is that stone is not obtainable in flat, so you cannot make a furnace to smelt iron or gold tools and armor. The second is that zombies themselves have a rare chance to drop an iron ingot.

Regarding the "enchanted signs" edit on Java Edition 2.0
The zombies carry signs having the same rainbow effect as enchantments, which is why I wrote enchanted signs. I don't see a better way of describing this, and the information should be kept on the page, perhaps using another word for describing it. Timotai (talk) 22:05, 29 May 2022 (UTC)
- Apologies for reverting you. A lot of people, especially new editors, insert fake information into articles and "enchanted signs" just struck me as too dubious to be credible. If that's actually a thing, perhaps describe it as "signs exhibiting an enchantment-like glow" or something similar to avoid introducing unanswered questions what enchantments are actually on the signs signs. The creator of the FAKE Pre-classic page creator is "Grand Sohn" these pages are not real versions of the game, if they are real, they have no proof of existing, long story short, I think they should be blocked, from what I can tell, they don't make very many constructive edits. A question
Look from now on I will try to not add excessive videos to pages if it makes you happy. - Hi, thank you for starting this discussion, and thank you for confirming that you're not Wattles.
- My main objection to the way you add videos is that they are often added without context. So are many other videos, and that practice shouldn't be propagated by new editors who come in. Tutorial pages shouldn't serve merely as a directory of Youtube videos. It's OK to have a small collection of carefully-curated videos on pages, but when they are added merely for the purpose of attracting views (which many are), that's wrong. That is the impression you were giving me (you came across as having a conflict of interest), and I'm glad to know I was wrong.
- Ideally, a tutorial shouldn't need videos at all. A description of mechanics, a few graphical illustrations. The tutorials I've written are mostly free of videos: Tutorials/Water-powered boat transportation, Tutorials/Axolotl farming, Tutorials/Zombie villager farming, and Tutorials/Flat survival don't have videos, and don't need them, the text and illustrations are enough. I also wrote Tutorials/Raid farming and Tutorials/Drowned farming, and while the article body of each is video-free, those tutorials have attracted lists of videos at the end.
- So what I'm saying is, if you want to include a video, please also include a description of any unique mechanics described, or any innovative features. A reader shouldn't have to view the video to know what's in it. The accompanying text should make the reader curious to watch it. Just saying "An efficient farm by Wattles" isn't enough. What's special about it? Is it feasible in Survival mode? How does it work? A tutorial page should be able to stand on its own without Youtube, if possible. While not many videos have adequate descriptions at the moment, that isn't a reason to compound the problem further.
- The best videos to include aren't ones that describe how to build something, but describe the mechanics of how things work. Have a look at the section Tutorials/Iron golem farming#1.16 iron farm mechanics — those are excellent examples of the kind of videos that a tutorial should have.
- Here's a "to do" list for ways editors can help out cleaning up the video mess in tutorials.
- Remove out-of date videos. Particularly a lot of stuff from before 1.19 may not need to be in tutorials anymore, although some things from older versions of Minecraft are still applicable to the latest version.
- Remove redundant videos. If a tutorial has two or three videos that describe more or less the same thing, then only one is needed. Pick one, describe it, and delete the others. I give preference to shorter videos and videos that explain mechanics, not simply show all the steps in building a structure.
- As a corollary, if you add a video, can it replace one that's already there? And if so, is the video you're adding an improvement?
- Add context to videos that remain. Summarize the video in accompanying text.
- If a graphic or schematic can serve the same purpose, the video isn't needed and can be removed.

A MCD page that needs fixing
So I have recently began editing the Minecraft Dungeons wiki over the past couple of months, and I noticed that a lot of the pages there look way different then when I last remember them a year ago, and not in a good way either. One of the worst offenders in the category is the Minecraft Dungeons Mob Page. It became a complete mess and looks way different than both the regular mob page and the mob pages for Minecraft Earth and Minecraft Story Mode. This page definitely has to be violating the style guide, but I haven't the time to go and manually fix everything. I trust someone like you will be able to make this page consistent with the other mob pages. James Haydon (talk) 01:27, 16 September 2022 (UTC)
- The people working on the MCD pages seem, for the most part, to be unaware of the style guide. I routinely correct capitalization errors, remove icon pollution from prose, fix poor grammar, remove trivia, remove tutorial advice, and so forth.
- As for the mob pages, while the MCD presentation isn't consistent with the other pages, I cannot see how it violates the style guide, and I am not sure if it's better or worse.

The answer might well be to make the other two mob pages the same as the Minecraft Dungeons page. MCD:Mob started out looking a lot like Mob and MCE:Mob, but then someone evidently thought the presentation could be improved. MCD:Mob is formatted to impart useful information in a way that the old format could not, providing context about subtypes and whether the mob is exclusive to Dungeons. - The tables shouldn't be centered on the page. They aren't in other articles. The content inside the tables is already centered within the cells, however.

Why did you do this?
I just noticed that you just added me to the autopatrol through the justification that I am active and I have experience. While I do try to be active, the problem lies in that I do not have enough experience and I do occasionally make mistakes in my edits. Is there any way that you could remove me from the autopatrol? - First, have a look at Wikipedia:Autopatrolled to understand what this does. Page patrolling is more burdensome here than on the English Wikipedia, so it is in the community's interest to grant the autopatrol right to trusted high-volume users. On Wikipedia, it matters only for new pages. Here on the Minecraft Wiki, it matters for every single edit, which is more of a burden.
- The purpose of that user right isn't to help you, but to aid page patrollers. I have been patrolling your edits for well over a year, and I am finding that your errors are so rare now that you can be trusted to edit without being manually patrolled. Having your activity always appearing in the unpatrolled edits list makes it harder to locate unconstructive edits and vandalism from those editors who truly haven't earned that right.
- Everyone makes mistakes occasionally. I do, you do, every administrator here does. The fact is, you're an active editor, you know what you're doing, you're familiar with the rules, you're constructive, and nobody needs to patrol your edits anymore. Your edits still appear in watchlists, and I still look at them, but at least now a page patroller has the option to filter out your activity if they want to see only unpatrolled edits.
