A trial key is an item that can be obtained from a trial spawner and used to unlock standard vaults.

Usage

Using a trial key on a standard vault (or ominous vault placed by commands) unlocks it, causing it to eject items and the trial key to be consumed. Vaults can only be unlocked once per player, unless there's more than 128 players open it, which cause the first player on the list being forgotten after every subsequent players open it.

November 6, 2023							Trial keys are first seen in a screenshot from a minecraft.net blog post teasing trial chambers.
January 26, 2024							Trial keys are revealed to be used to unlock vaults at Minecraft Monthly.
							A new trial key texture is shown at Minecraft Monthly with orange eyes and a gray skull, as opposed to blue eyes and a navy-blue skull.
