November redesign
wow. amazing o-o
only comments are the logo isn't there, so the top part seems very bare. also, the indiedb banners were made to be on either side. like those fancy curtains in castles. they will however be removed as of January.
oh, finally, the grid needs a bit of organizing. I'd naturally put it like: block gameplay updates server community links
but, that's nitpicking really. amazing amazing work!!!! --Kizzycocoa 06:11, 30 November 2010 (CST)
- I wasn't real fond of the logo, but if you guys want it, it can be added, in fact, feel free to change things around however you wish. If you do put the logo back, I would recommend making it much smaller than it was. The point is to have the links to the actual content accessible without a lot of scrolling. If you consider the ad banner, and the logo, and the welcome, you are then pushing the actual content links down half a page. I tend to look at designs that work within a 1024x768 resolution (or close), since that is the resolution that the majority of people view in. I created this page so that the community can have input in how their wiki looks. I took the blue from your wiki logo (which is very nice btw), and tried to give the title boxes more of a 3d look to incorporate the block theme of the game. I basically just took the stuff that is currently on the mainpage and gave it a more organized feel/look. As for the News Updates area where the indeidb thing is can be filled in after January with links regarding news, updates etc as the game moves from alpha to beta and eventually to final release. Feel free to make whatever changes you would like. -- Wynthyst

- are you from curse? your fire-sig looks sorta cool :P
- Ah, I see. well, I believe it should change. it is ugly.
- I see how you're making it. it is a good way to make it. hmm.
- ok, here's a thought. have the current MP logo at the top, and be banners at the top right/left respectively. that way, the amount of space taken can only be as high as how tall the banners are, which is fairly small.
- I agree the logo should be improved if re-added. I'd suggest/could create a horizontal version of the logo in the top-left of all the pages. like, the cube, with Minepedia in that lovely font it uses to the right.
- thoughts? --Kizzycocoa 07:08, 30 November 2010 (CST)
- Yes, I'm from Curse, here to help the Minepedia community. By banners, do you mean the ad banners? They are coded outside of MediaWiki, and I have no control over their placement, so everything we do will be underneath the top one. Let me play with a couple of other ideas, but again, feel free to make whatever changes you want to this page, this is our "test ground" to work with until we get it just right :D and everyone agrees. -- Wynthyst

- ah, ok! yet, you're not an admin? D:! how are you not the thing that I said?
- also, I mean the IndieDB banners. because, while the news section is good. In fact, if we had a plugin to display an entry from the latest blog, it could be updated instantly. but the banner sorta doesn't belong there. IndieDB is an event, that will last from now until a good half month. if news comes up during then, the banners will have to go.

- so, for the time that the awards are active, I think they should be a image at the top left and right of the page, in the corners. Off of the top of my head, I can only compare this style of placement to that of the great hall in "Harry potter" (Here). Perhaps the placement can also be reserved for other event images, such as a specialized halloween advert for an upcoming update to Minecraft.
- I can edit the page once not in college, and attempt to show you what I mean in a few minutes. it can be edited/reverted if you so wish. but just to test how it looks, and see if it fits into the new style. I'm fairly confident it will fit in easily.--Kizzycocoa 07:39, 30 November 2010 (CST)
- Go for it, this doesn't have to be decided today... we want input from as much of the community as is interested.. this is after all, your wiki. At the moment I'm not an admin, that is something we are working on behind the scenes.. eventually, I will probably have admin rights, to be able to assist you guys where needed, but I'm not here to take over or anything. Just to lend a hand where it's needed. -- Wynthyst

- ok, changed. of course, it's all un-do able. I sized the images -just- right to get it to all slot together nicely.

- I'm not a big fan of the Indie banners. They are taking away from the purpose of this wiki and, at most, should be in the community or news section. Other than that, i do like the layout and design. And what kind of news do you want in that section (aka, where should it pull from?) --JonTheMon 16:21, 1 December 2010 (UTC

- Jon, I'd like to just say, it is not permanent. it is a very special competition. if it wins, we all get minecraft cake. that may seem insignificant, but come on! it's cake!!! :P
- It will not be there for longer than 1/2 a month. if that! basically, when this runs out, then we plan to remove it. so it isn't permanent by any means.
- If we all decide to remove it, that's fine. but I run the Mod/IndieDB pages, so this competition is sorta swarming me with stuff to do. X3 --Kizzycocoa 19:28, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

Ready for transfer
Hi. I copied across the current code from the mainpage, and then integrated the changes that had been made to to this page since December 6. I've also cleaned up the erratic double-spacing and missing spaces, that were in both pages. (Succinctly: They're properly merged :)
There are only 5 content differences between the editcopy and mainpage now:
- the new link to "mobs"
- the new link to "tutorials"
- the version history/beta note
- the indiedb image removed (voting has ended)
- and the help:contents link removal (it's a redirect)
Those changes all seem good to me (and everyone who implemented them :)
This page should now be ready and suitable for being copied across to the mainpage. Thanks :) -- Ephemeris 16:04, 15 December 2010 (CST)
- done. however, I feel parts should be bullet-spaced to make them more squashed, such as "game modes". literally, in the same style as Template:Entities --Kizzycocoa 16:12, 15 December 2010 (CST)
- I agree something about the "Game modes" list should be changed, especially considering that two of the modes are still just "upcoming". How about:
- Creative • Survival • (upcoming: Adventure • Zombie Siege)
- Which is the way they're currently listed in Template:Minecraft.
- Or we could just leave out the "upcoming" modes until they're actually available (which is what I'd prefer). -- Ephemeris 17:34, 15 December 2010 (CST)

Adding the core templates
Could we add the content-templates to the main page, to provide a easy-to-access index of the core pages? For example, here they are embedded at the end of the current page. -- Ephemeris 20:11, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
- I say no. Instead, there are links to the main pages of each of those templates. That's what a main page is for. --JonTheMon 00:33, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
Slight Update
I noticed the version and price information in "The Game" section hadn't been updated. I made a simple edit to correct it. --Markus 10:02, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
Slightly false information?
About the following: "inspired by Infiniminer". I'm not entirely sure, but wasn't it also inspired by Dwarf Fortress? Would be nice if someone could confirm this.
I think it's fair to say that Notch pulled inspiration from a lot of different sources, like any good developer. The game certainly resembles Infiniminer much more than Dwarf Fortress, so I say leave it. --Theothersteve7 14:34, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
minecraft 1.8.1 just came out can someone change this please

suggestions
I think on the main page you should put a breif list of all the changes in the newest update. What i mean is the one there now has linke=s to notchs blog but i think there should be one linking to the wiki articles Crackhead92 15:07, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
New logo
Is horrible. -- Wynthyst talk 03:17, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
- I like it. It was sourced from the original vectorized logo ([1]), with the original font (AddLGBitmap09) found by Quatro, and modified by Ultradude. Furthermore, as a vector, there should not be quality loss with resizing. And I really love how it looks. :) -MegaScience 03:59, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
- I like it too. Calinou - talk × contribs » 05:15, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
- I'm sorry to hear that, but so far I've only received positive feedback from #Minecraft, the admins from FR and several editors here. What exactly do you not like about it?
Also I'm very sorry for not putting this through discussion first, I was a bit too enthusiastic.--Quatroking - MCWiki Administrator 11:18, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

I love it I would love to see it on the main page. But keep the block logo for every where eles --007a83 (Talk|Contribs) 16:40, 17 October 2012 (UTC)
- I adjusted the logo area to match the front page, but I moved the article and user count to the community section, since there was a second article count down there anyways. The "Welcome to" didn't fit though, and I reworded the slogan to "The official resource on everything Minecraft, instead of information about. If we can also change the top left site logo (and the favicon) to the really nice File:Logo2.png, I would like to see the same special render of that grass block without the mini logo where the placeholder grass blocks are. The only "big" issue is that this current incarnation is 14px taller than the front page version (yes, I have a ruler program) which hopefully shouldn't be an issue.

05:59, 26 January 2013 (UTC) - Something interesting I found out on my phone. The current logo area on the front page is actually taller than the current editcopy version on an iPhone.

New links Image
What do you guys think of it?--007a83 (Talk|Contribs) 20:50, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
- Honestly, it's a bit ugly. The cursor is weirdly distorted, and it's been flattened to 8-bit color, which is completely unnecessary for a small png. Re-creating it from File:Links.jpg but keeping it at 32-bit color would be much better. -- Orthotope 23:14, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
- I cant seem to keep the 32-bit color, but I removed the distorted look. --007a83 (Talk|Contribs) 22:44, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
- ok its been removed. just to be clear, how am I the only one with the base image with no Water marks. Ask your self that and see who has the Copy right. --007a83 (Talk|Contribs) 09:07, 26 November 2012 (UTC)

- Also used at http://afterlifelochie.net/docs/File:Dev.png. Not clear if it's original work there or taken from something else. -- Orthotope 01:30, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
- It was on this wiki before i just reuploaded it from a cache version because it was broken, the user that uploaded it was Revenant. Can confirm that it is the same image. (It was resized my Ultradude25) TheIanM2002 02:03, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
- I've never been to afterlifelochie, but I still swear I saw it somewhere. I was not aware of Minecraft in 2010 at all, but looking through the history of the main page, that's when it was only used, between December 30, 2009 and December 3, 2010. My shady memory tells me the use I remember was related to Notch, perhaps on one of his blogs or on one of their sites or something. Regardless, I believe this reupload is the same as it was before, but I share Orthotope's thought process that the actual original is unknown, perhaps Revenant made it himself. It's possible the German or Netherlands wiki deleted it sometime in the past. I know the German wiki is one of the two wikis that share our image db, but can't exactly remember if the nl wiki is the second one. Anyways, I still like it and have no problems with it.
