Minecraft Wiki:Protected pages

Jump to navigation Jump to search

Pages are sometimes protected to prevent vandalism or edit wars.

Protection types[edit source]

The following types of protection are available to administrators, CATS, GIM, and staff for securing different actions on pages:

  • Edit protection protects the page from being edited.
  • Move protection protects the page from being moved.
  • Creation protection prevents a page from being created (also known as "salting").
  • Upload protection prevents a file from being uploaded or reuploaded.

Protection levels[edit source]

The following levels of protection are available to administrators, CATS, GIM and staff for applying protection to various actions on pages:

  • Semi-protection prevents the action by unregistered users and users with accounts that are not autoconfirmed.
  • Full protection prevents the action by everyone except by administrators, CATS, GIM and staff.
  • Director protection prevents the action by everyone except by directors, CATS, and GIM.

Other protection types[edit source]

User page protection[edit source]

User pages (including subpages, but excluding talk pages) are automatically protected from creation or editing by unconfirmed accounts and anonymous IP users. An exception to this includes an unconfirmed registered account attempting to create or edit their own user page. IP editors and unconfirmed accounts are also unable to create or edit user pages that do not belong to a currently registered account. This protection is enforced by an abuse filter.

Interface protection[edit source]

Interface pages in the MediaWiki namespace are automatically protected from creation or editing by users without editinterface rights, i.e. only administrators and GIM can create or edit these pages.

Requesting protection[edit source]

Submitting request[edit source]

Any of the protections mentioned above can be requested at the admin noticeboard. Proposed changes to a protected page should be discussed on the project page. If the proposed changes are uncontroversial or reach a consensus, a user with editing access to the page can implement them.

A log of protections and unprotections is available at Special:Log/protect.
