Articles are allowed in content namespaces only if they fit the following criteria. Articles that do not fit the criteria may be deleted or redirected without notice.

General[edit source]

  1. Articles must contain enough information to warrant a full page. If they do not have enough content, they should be merged with other similar articles.
  2. Articles must pertain directly to Minecraft in some way.
  3. Articles about people are allowed only if the person in question is a developer of Minecraft and/or either a part of or closely related to Mojang Studios.
  4. Features that are not currently in the game should be included only in the version's mentioned features article unless they have been officially announced by Mojang, in which case separate articles may be created.
    1. This excludes features that have been removed or features from development versions, which may be noted on articles affected by the feature and the relevant version article(s).
  5. Articles about versions of Minecraft may be created for released editions, of which separate articles should be created for each development version.
    1. Future version articles may be created, provided there is a significant source of the unreleased version's existence. Sources include development versions or multiple sources of features for the next update. Additionally, future versions should be added as a sub-section of planned versions.
    2. Future theme update pages may also be created, once the point 5.1 is fulfilled.
    3. Future development version articles may not be created.
    4. Articles on past showcased unreleased versions such as the Pocket Edition Demo and Xbox 360 Edition 1.66.0016.0 may be created if sufficient proof exists for them.

Minecraft: Story Mode[edit source]

For Minecraft: Story Mode and Minecraft: Story Mode - Season Two:

  1. Locations, buildings, rooms, biomes, dimensions, and worlds should generally have a page if they match at least two of the following criteria:
    1. A location has enough information to warrant a page.
    2. A location has a given name.
    3. The protagonists spent a significant amount of time at the location.
    4. A location has a historical significance to the plot or the lore.

Second-party content[edit source]

Second-party content is content that is not made by Microsoft, Mojang or its affiliates, but that have been made official nonetheless.

Marketplace content[edit source]

For content that is typically released on the Marketplace, such as add-ons, skin packs, mash-up packs, etc:

  1. Individual Marketplace content should have a page only if its official. A piece of Marketplace content is deemed official if it is released "By Minecraft" or contains an official Minecraft logo in its thumbnail or promotional material.
    1. All content with Minecraft branding is official, however not everything official has Minecraft branding.
    2. Promotional material can include trailers, an event such as Beyond the Pale Garden, merchandise, or a dedicated page on Minecraft.net separate from its storefront.
    3. If a release has both an article and a trailer on an official Mojang account, it can be considered official.
  2. All Myths in Minecraft Legends are also considered official.
  3. All information about a piece of Marketplace content should be documented only on that one page. For example, all information about 15 Year Party Supplies is documented on that page only, no pages about individual items in that add-on should be created.
  4. Simple acknowledgement of a release does not make it official. The Marketplace Twitter account promotes any or all possible releases on the platform, both official and unofficial, making it unreliable as a source.
    1. Inclusion in Minecraft media also does not inherently mean official status. Trailers such as Start a New Minecraft Story exist to promote the Marketplace as a platform for first, second, and third party content. Events exist to promote individual releases made in collaboration with Mojang Studios.
  5. If a second party release is deemed official due to any of the preceding points, any content connected to it can also be documented, regardless of individual official status.
    1. Terra Swoop Force originated as a Java Edition map, and went on to have several prequels and spin-offs. In order to accurately document a subject's history, they can also be given pages, or at least explained, depending on the scope or priority.

Other content[edit source]

For apps, websites and tools that are not made by Microsoft, Mojang or its affiliates, but that have been made official nonetheless:

  1. A page may be created for the content, if an official source clearly states said content is official.
  2. The content may be a website (like Chunker), an app (like Blockbench) or more.
  3. A valid source may be an article on minecraft.net, or a mention on social media made by an official account or a developer that designates the content as official.
    1. For instance, a tweet by a developer stating that Chunker is now the official world converter is valid, but a link to a community Discord server on minecraft.net is not.

Community[edit source]

  1. Gameplay strategies, guides, how-to tutorials, etc., should be in the Tutorial namespace.
    1. Pages containing a list of miscellaneous builds the user can make are not to be considered a tutorial. They are to be kept in the userspace. This includes user-created activities and challenges.
  2. Articles about mini-games are not allowed.
    1. The only exception to this rule are the mini games that are available as part of the Legacy Console Edition.
  3. Articles about client or server mods, or third-party programs and map editors, are not allowed to be created on the wiki.
    1. Such articles are better reserved to the Feed the Beast Wiki, a wiki focused on documenting modded content.
    2. While many pages regarding mods can currently still be found on the wiki (mostly as subpages of Mods and Programs and editors), these are kept for predominantly legacy purposes, and are currently being exported to the FTB Wiki for better management.
  4. Articles regarding custom servers should not be created.
  5. Articles should not be created that violate the Wiki rules:
    •  4. Parody, comedic, nonsense, hoax, and speculation articles, or any other article that could mislead players are not allowed to be created.
    •  5. Articles created for the purpose of advertising specific servers or other products are not allowed.
    •  5. Articles about fan communities are not allowed due to advertising issues.

Articles in the "User:" namespace are exempt from the notability policy. They can be used for anything, provided they follow the other wiki rules. However, it is still strongly recommended that they are kept clean as to not clog up maintenance categories, as such userpages may be eligible for blanking upon inactivity of the user.

Redirects[edit source]

Redirects are exempt from the normal notability, but must redirect to an article that fits the notability policy. If a redirect leads to another wiki, it must use {{soft redirect}}. Redirects can be created if they fit one of the following:

  • Alternative spelling of the title, such as "Armour" for "Armor".
    • This includes incorrect spelling, typos, and irregular formatting that often occurs. These redirects should be in the category Typo redirects. You may use Special:SearchDigest in order to find out common typos.
  • Alternative or shortened name, provided the name is common usage, such as "Duck" for "Chicken". Previous in game names are also allowed, such as "Workbench" for "Crafting Table".
  • This also includes names from alternative English language packs, with the exception of joke languages such as "Pirate Speak" and "LOLCAT".
  • Previous article title, including if the article was moved to another wiki.
    • An exception is if the previous title was not commonly used.
  • Alternative capitalization or form, including changing the title to plural case.
  • A part of a merged or multi-topic article, such as a potion or a mentioned feature.
  • Redirects from mainspace to the Minecraft Earth, Minecraft Dungeons and Minecraft Legends namespaces.

Redirects in the user namespace may lead anywhere, except to an article that does not exist or another redirect.

Archiving[edit source]

When significant, templates and modules that are no longer needed should be archived instead of deleted for the sake of preserving wiki history and preserving edit history for edit attribution. The following criteria makes a template or module eligible for archival:

  • If it was used in an article space of the wiki for longer than a year.
  • If its contents directly influenced the creation of another template or module, for example a sub-template getting merged into its root template.

To archive the template or module, use {{deprecated}} and blank the transcluded contents of the template or module. When applicable, create a redirect to direct readers to the appropriate replacement and add {{Redr|history}}.
