A creaking is an upcoming hostile mob that spawns in pale gardens which was revealed at Minecraft Live 2024. They are made out of pale oak logs.

Spawning

Creakings spawn when a creaking heart is activated. For this, it has to be placed between two pale oak logs with the same orientation as the heart and it must be nighttime. The creaking heart is not deactivated if the surrounding logs are broken or moved using pistons.

Drops

The creaking does not drop any items or experience on death.

Behavior

Creakings are hostile mobs, but unlike other regular monsters, the creaking only moves toward and attacks the player when they are not looking at it. While moving toward the player, it runs at what looks like the same speed that of a running player.

Creakings are only killed when the creaking heart is broken, otherwise they are immune to player attack except when hit by players in creative mode. It is unknown if they can be hurt through other sources of damage such as fall damage or lava. Creakings do not step out of the 32 block radius from its creaking heart. If a player in survival mode tries to attack the creaking, it will send out particle beams leading to its creaking heart.

Creakings despawn during daytime. It is unknown if using a Name Tag on them is possible, and if it is the case if it will prevent them from despawning during daytime.

Creakings inflict 1 heart of damage (2 health points) in an unknown difficulty.

Trivia

• During minecraft live 2024 ¹ a group of creaking is called a crunch, it was likely intended as a joke during the aftershow
• According to one of the audio/sound devs at mojang during minecraft live 2024 ¹ some of the sounds used in the creaking are teeth (from and while in the devs mouth),dead sticks and leaves, a creaky chair, the dev's tables they work on due to the creakyness, and a "possibly swedish" snack shaped like sticks.
