New administrator

There are not much active admins recently; I think it would be a good idea to make KnightMiner a new one. Before saying that you need Majr’s opinion on this, I’ll say that Majr is also inactive. Also, if you can, please move User:Naista2002/userpage.css and User:Naista2002/userpage/* to update the user name to NickTheRed37.

Majr edited several times yesterday or earlier today (depending on your timezone), and before that he only went a single week without editing, that's hardly what I'd call "inactive". In addition, given that he works for Curse now, I find it unlikely that he would take a sudden, unannounced leave of absence from the wiki. And at any rate I wouldn't have said I would need Majr's opinion specifically; rather, I would (and do) want a discussion showing community support for potential new administrators - I have no interest in unilaterally deciding the wiki needs more admins and appointing them myself. That being said, from what I've seen over the years, KnightMiner would be a top candidate, assuming he's actually interested; if you want to spearhead this, first ask him if he's interested, and if so, start a discussion on the community portal and a notice of the discussion on the admin noticeboard. After the discussion has run for a reasonable length of time (a couple of weeks or so, or shorter if there is overwhelming support and no valid concerns/objections), myself or another bureaucrat will review it and promote or refuse as necessary (you or anyone else should feel free to poke one of us if it seems we've forgotten somehow).

If we need another admin, I agree that KnightMiner would be a good choice. Admittedly, I'm somewhat less active than I used to be, mostly due to being away from home 8-16 hours per day, which doesn't leave me as much time for wiki-related activities. -- Orthotope^talk 23:55, 19 February 2015 (UTC)

To answer the question of whether I would be interested, I would say yes. I currently am rather active, and don't plan on departing the wiki anytime soon. Several admins are still active, enough for most administrative tasks to be completed with reasonable time. For example, it only took Dinoguy two hours to respond here.

As for the tagging, most of the pages were tagged, although it would have been better to poke an admin before moving redirects rather than after. –KnightMiner ^t/_c 15:35, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

This approach is mostly useful in cases of page move vandalism, where restoring page titles quickly is important. The downside is that it clutters the move log and makes it harder to figure out which pages have moved to where, and why. None of these moves were particularly urgent; if anyone had bothered to ask on the admin noticeboard, they would have been taken care of. -- Orthotope^talk 08:23, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

Also, pages tagged aren't always ready to be moved. People tag them to propose moving them, so you can't just go and move everything in the pending category, without first reading any related discussions to see if consensus has actually been reached. –Majr ᐸ Talk

Except in cases of vandalism (and even then, only if the vandalism is vulgar or otherwise offensive), there is no urgency to getting pages renamed. Knight, Ortho, and Majr have given several reasons not to perform renames using this method, except in those vandalism situations, so I'll only add that you seem to have a rather narrow idea of what qualifies for inactive: a few hours to maybe a day or so. General practice on major wikis is to give about a week or so when proposing changes such as pagemoves, because there are often editors who can only really be active every few days. What nonsense? It is simple parser functions.

It first asks if the second parameter is set to blank, in which case it displays nothing. If it is not blank, it adds a no breaking space, then text with the first character in uppercase. That text will be the second parameter if set, otherwise it defaults to the first parameter. To expand on what KnightMiner said with a bit of background, it takes advantage of some not-unsubtle behaviors/interactions between template parameters and ParserFunctions to distinguish between a parameter not being set in a given transclusion (if there's a parameter param in template {{Foo}}, for example, this case would correspond to a transclusion where |param= doesn't appear, e.g. {{Foo|bar=baz}}), the parameter being set but having no value (extending the previous example, something like {{Foo|bar=baz|param=}}), and the parameter being set and having a value (something like {{Foo|bar=baz|param=quux}}). The way I've always seen this done in the past - and have done it myself - is to set the parameter default to some value that should never occur in normal usage (often the not character ¬ is used for this purpose, though I've seen other characters used), and then check if the parameter's value is equal to that character. This method can distinguish between all three cases using a #switch ({{ #switch: {{{param|¬}}} | ¬ = <!-- parameter not defined --> | = <!-- parameter defined but empty --> | foo = bar | baz = quux | #default = ... }}), or an #ifeq can instead be used e.g. to make sure no pages use a deprecated parameter ({{ #ifeq: {{{param|¬}}} | ¬ | <!-- parameter isn't used --> | {{static link|Category:tracking category}} }}); note that distinguishing between a parameter that is unset or set but has no value, and a parameter with some value, just requires a #if as you would expect.

This case accomplishes the same basic task in a slightly different way (one I've never actually seen before, which is why it took me several minutes to realize what was going on): by checking if {{{param}}}, without a pipe, is equal to an empty string, you can distinguish between cases where the parameter is used but not given a value, and cases where it either has a value or isn't used. In the first case, its value is an empty string - as though it used a pipe in the template. In the second case, if the parameter isn't used at all, its value is {{{param}}}. I'm not really sure what you're referring to. If you mean just the #ifeq parser function itself, then yes, it's short for "if equal". Page translation

Dear Dinoguy1000,

I want to create a missing page in another language, and I was wondering if google translate would be acceptable for the page translation. I know that google translate isn't very reliable, but I understand if only reliable translation systems (such as a person who can speak that language) are permitted.

Are you talking about translating a page into a non-English language? If so, I can't tell you for sure what that language wiki's policy would be in regards to Google Translate translations, but I can tell you they probably won't be allowed. If you speak the language you're wanting to translate into, you can, of course, use a Google Translate translation as a starting point, but if you don't, I would instead suggest that you leave it to someone who does (unfortunately, the only language I speak well enough to write in is English, so I can't personally provide any help with that). 「ディノ奴千？！」^{? · ☎ Dinoguy1000} 07:45, 3 November 2015 (UTC)

Deleting my Minecraft Wiki account?

It isn't possible to delete your account, but there are still some options available to you. If you don't care about keeping your past edits associated with your current account, the simplest thing to do by far would be to simply register a new account and stop using this one. If you go this route, you could remove the email address associated with the current account and scramble the password (use a service to generate a random string, or just mash your keyboard) if you want to make sure it's permanent.

If you want to keep your edit history, you can instead request a rename from Curse staff; I think the best way to go about this would be to ask Majr for assistance (but requesting account renames in general isn't a well-documented process on Curse sites; the most I could find is this Curse Support page). 「ディノ奴千？！」^{? · ☎ Dinoguy1000} 03:11, 24 December 2015 (UTC)
