Dino Dino Dino Dino Dino!... Yah I can't think of any more good headlines.

Dino have you played "Portal" and/or "Portal 2",if not then YOU NEED TOO.They're super awesome games although I can't play "Portal 1",because I'm only ten years old and it has blood in it and I don't want to become desensitized, good thing I watched someone play the game before I found out about desensitization.PS:I'm that guy that got mad about your automated system, you know,I'm the one who created that page called "Creating a Piston Glitch" and thank you for giving a link to that by the way.I kinda sounded like GlaDos in "Portal" hahaha. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 50.157.164.244 (talk) 01:58, 5 January 2014(UTC). Yeah, I've played Portal, and would like to play Portal 2, but haven't had the opportunity yet. =)
If you're worried about desensitization, I might recommend Mirror's Edge. While the game does feature weapons and some blood, it penalizes you for taking a Rambo-style approach to gameplay, instead emphasizing avoiding confrontation. =)

An automated filter has detected an unwanted word...

I just attempted to add the following to the talk page of the Server article, and I have no idea what word was found to be offensive. Please tell me what word to avoid:

[snip] Jeffryfisher (talk) 20:32, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

Hello Jeffryfisher, sorry about that! Unfortunately, I'm not sure what word is triggering the filter; there's nothing obvious in your comment, so I'd have to guess it's just a false positive. Try rewording your comment and posting it again, or alternately ask Kanegasi if he can help you better; he's edited that filter much more than I have and is much more familiar with how it works. Post this page!!

If you are in need of cactus and do not own a cactus farm, then here is a really simple tip. Go to a local desert and bring some signs. Right click on the bottom of the cactus to instantly collect the cactus. The reason this works is because signs need a block to support them, such as a cactus. So when you try to place it on the cactus is uses the cactus as support. On the other hand cactus cannot be placed next to a block or it will break. So when you place the sign next to the cactus, it updates the cactus and the cactus realizes it needs to break. When the cactus breaks then the sign has nothing to support itself on so it too breaks. Then you collect the broken cactus and recollect the sign. The cactus will not destroy the sign item entity because in logic the cactus breaks before the sign. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Dethlefsonm (talkcontribs) 06:32, 5 February 2014 (UTC). dateformat parser function in text

Hi, I've seen you removed {{#dateformat:}}s from what I wrote on Mojang AB#Scrolls. I'm just curious to know why they're a bad thing though... :) -- Fomtg (talk) 22:59, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

Parser functions are not bad per se, but they can be troublesome for casual editors if used in prose directly; generally speaking, they should either be moved to a template and that template used instead, or they should be removed and their output used directly. In the case of dateformat, its output doesn't do anything that isn't achieved by just formatting the date as required manually. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 21:22, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

The wiki is intended for articles documenting Minecraft; discussions such as this are better suited for the forums. Also, the references on the Pocket Edition upcoming features article include statements from the developers specifically confirming these features. -- Orthotopetalk 22:48, 5 March 2014 (UTC)

<br> and code readability?

This topic on Majr's talk page and this edit. Which one is correct? --GreenStone (talk) 21:14, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

In this case, Matt is mistaken. Both versions of the tag are converted to <br /> by MediaWiki's parser; this happens regardless of whether the wiki is set to generate HTML5 or XHTML. This is easy to check, too; just view the source of this page and compare these:
  • <br>:
  • <br />:
(Note that you do actually have to view the page's source to see this; if you use Chrome (and maybe Firefox; I haven't checked), the data/element inspector shows the version of the markup the browser creates for its own use, which can differ significantly from the markup the wiki actually generates, and in this case converts both tags back to the "slashless" <br> version.)
You should not interpret this as one version being "less work" for the wiki to render, though; parsing works through a process called tokenization, where "known" markup is replaced with standard tokens, which are then replaced with the final markup in a second pass. It takes basically the same amount of work for either version to be parsed.
As to which version makes the code more readable, it is very much a matter of personal opinion/preference. I prefer the XHTML version, while Matt prefers the HTML version. I should point out, though, that I don't usually edit pages just to change from one style to the other (and I would discourage others from doing so as well); the only reason I undid your edit was specifically so I could respond to your edit summary. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 22:08, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

Spoke too soon; it was broken; the case you used for null/undefined wasn't being hit or something, because it went to the outer #default and was putting 'unknown edition' everywhere. I just copy/pasted the case from Computer to #default. Yes, cringe, absolutely, but how to catch undefined/null in the expected place, maybe you know how, because I don't. – Sealbudsman (Aaron) (talk) – 19:58, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

Probably because I used #switch: {{{edition}}} instead of #switch: {{{edition|}}}. At any rate, the new version works, so as long as you don't think it's terribly important to catch unknown values for "edition" (I don't), there shouldn't need to be any further fixes/adjustments aside from adding proper support for the other "edition" values. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 20:01, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

If you're actually posting on the forum, make sure you're following the forum rules; if your topic was posted in the wrong section, it may have been moved. While the wiki does allow articles about mods, the mod needs to be released, and the article should contain a reasonable amount of information about it. -- Orthotopetalk 08:18, 4 May 2014 (UTC)

Mash Up packs

I am new here but I found the information page about Console Edition's Mash Up Packs has no Known Text information: this is what I'd like to put: Mash-up packs are DLC for the Console Edition as a combination of a Texture Pack and a Skin Pack, but only are they from any console games, such as Halo, or Mass Effect. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by TH3uncr4ft3d (talkcontribs) 23:42, 17 May 2014 (UTC). Spam blacklist issue

We seem to be getting a false positive (see :File:Spamfilter.png), but I can't figure out which part of the filter is matching. I'm a bit concerned that a bunch of the recent additions don't include word boundaries, which makes it easier for them to accidentally match parts of domains they aren't supposed to. Can you help sort this out? -- Orthotopetalk 22:02, 1 June 2014 (UTC)

As far as I can tell, there's a rule somewhere matching all .co.uk domains; removing the entire section of rules from meta:Spam blacklist didn't remove the errant match, so I suspect that one of the rules added there is incorrect. I've added a whitelist rule for mapreader.atspace.co.uk on the local whitelist until the problem is fixed on Meta. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 22:49, 1 June 2014 (UTC)

Just so you know you can make colours in mincraft without using the '§' symbol. You can use the '&' symbol instead, as far as I know you can only do this in PC all the rules on your page are the same just instead of using the '§' symbol you replace it with the '&' symbol; e.g. (your page say's) §e will mean the colour of the sign is yellow (so) &e will mean the colour of the sign is yellow. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 94.173.229.178 (talk) at 16:09, 10 August 2014 (UTC). Commands like /give

I think if you are right, and /give has been around since Alpha-ish, we might want to revisit and QA the Commands page, which references it being added in 1.3.1 (12w16a). The snapshot page says it was added there as well. I'll try to do some old-version testing of that page; of course it'll only be singleplayer testing. – Sealbudsman (Aaron) T, C, b 21:29, 11 September 2014 (UTC)

Digging into sources a bit, as of Alpha 1.1.2_01 (server version 0.2.1), the available commands were help, ?, kick, ban, pardon, ban-ip, pardon-ip, op, deop, tp, give, tell, stop, save-all, save-off, save-on, list, say. Might be able to figure out exactly when each was added if I can find all the old server versions. -- Orthotopetalk 22:15, 11 September 2014 (UTC)
Any idea why it's being put on 1.3.1 pages and the Commands page? Were they unavailable for a while? – Sealbudsman (Aaron) T, C, b 22:44, 11 September 2014 (UTC)
The history section of the Commands article was originally merged in from the Cheats article, which only listed when they were added as single-player commands. There was no history section for server commands, and I guess no one noticed or bothered to check if commands had been available earlier when the pages were merged. -- Orthotopetalk 23:11, 11 September 2014 (UTC)

Could I request a database dump for personal use? Internet can be jumpy at times and the wiki is always handy to have at hand. Thanks! 49.148.191.31 03:18, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

Curse doesn't make database dumps generally available, but they might be provided on request; I'll ask and find out for you. =) ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 06:43, 13 September 2014 (UTC)
I asked, and was pointed to Special:Export; I've let them know that you're after a copy of the wiki for offline use and so that Special:Export probably won't work for you. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 17:43, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

Hi, unfortunately I don't know what you mean by "hotbar"; could you explain some or show me a picture of it? ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 21:27, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
Do you mean the basic 9 on-screen inventory slots? Usually you toggle that with F1. – Sealbudsman (Aaron) T, C, b 21:32, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

Just to say

I am new to the Minecraft Wiki. I just made an account. I spent a long time writing out an article on Title Update 19 for Console, and I was ready to post it publicly. It said I couldn't because I was too new! I was a little sad so I decided to contact an admin about my concern(and probably a few others aswell. I think with such amazing admins like you, new people who have signed up to contribute to the Wiki shouldn't be stopped. I agree with the fact that you shouldn't at all post offensive or rude content, but it might not be the newbies (or noobs)! I don't mean to be rude on an amazing place, but I wish it was more accessible! Spade (talk) 22:35, 29 September 2014 (UTC)Spade

As per wiki rule #7, we don't allow articles based on speculation. Discussion of what features may be in future updates is better suited for the forum. -- Orthotopetalk 01:02, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

Sign Trivia changes

Hi, I've recently discovered a way to create custom NBT tagged signs without using commands, and I've tried to add this to the page, but it keeps being taken down. It's really annoying as this isn't just crap spam, it actually works. Hold Left Ctrl Pick Block a placed sign with text on it, whilst holding a sign in your hand the held sign will then gain an NBT tag and when placed, will only show the text from the first sign! It works! Seriously! –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.160.112.239 (talk) at 17:52, 1 October 2014‎ (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

One, the sign in your hand is not required. Two, it is noted on Creative where it belongs, although currently only in the history section. KnightMiner (t|c) 18:11, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Signature

What's the point of including Japanese characters in your signature, Dinoguy? --Naista2002 12:04, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

It dates back at least five years to when I still edited Wikipedia regularly. I was an active participant in the Anime and Manga WikiProject, and a signature with Japanese text just seemed appropriate. I've never bothered to change it since (other than the occasional small tweak or optimization), mostly because I like it, but also because I'm not imaginative enough to come up with something else. You can see a bit more of its history at wikipedia:User:Dinoguy1000/signature and its talk page. =) ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 06:29, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

Entity 303

I want to make a page about Entity 303. It doesn't allow me to post it. why? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.117.244.215 (talk) at 13:56, 11 October 2014 (UTC)‎ (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

First, you're too new for creating such pages. Second, why create it - someone mentioned Herobrine as Entity 303. And third, please sign your comments with ~~~~. --Naista2002 13:59, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
We have no interest in whatever Herobrine nonsense has come up this week. We have enough trouble dealing with people who believe the original story without adding on any Herobrine 2.0 claptrap. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 02:47, 12 October 2014 (UTC)

Anonymous users have to press the "Show preview" button below the editing area before submitting. (NOT the Preview tab!!!) And, please sign your comments with ~~~~, this allows for easily differentiating you from others. --Naista2002 08:22, 18 October 2014 (UTC)

The page you're trying to create is already covered by the Console Edition version history page. Even if you had been able to create your page, then, it probably would have been deleted very quickly. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 19:56, 26 October 2014 (UTC)

About "Pre 0.0.0"

The name doesn't make sense at all, and is also made up by someone. "Foundation Version" is a better option, but is still made up. What should we do about this? Should we remove a title for this altogether? Somebody500 (有人500) (talk) 22:56, 7 November 2014 (UTC)

If "Pre 0.0.0" is a made-up name, the most preferable course of action would be asking Notch how he refers/referred to these versions, and using whatever terminology he used. If that doesn't work for whatever reason (he has no such terminology, or refuses to answer for whatever reason), the next-best course of action is to prefer the older name (because, by merit of its age, it will be better-known and more established) while holding a discussion to see if there is any consensus to change it, and any suggestions for alternate names. Personally, I find the name "Foundation Version" to be completely nonsensical, and if I were pressed to suggest a name, would probably come up with something like "test version" or "concept test". ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:03, 8 November 2014 (UTC)

Info on how to become an admin or bureaucrat.

Hi Dinoguy1000. I am Megasteel32 and I have been playing Minecraft since Indev and bought the game around the halloween update, similar to you. As you may see, I have a lot of experience with the game and want to give back to the game that has given me so much (Like no more boring weekends =]). I want to be able to contribute to the wiki, and help guide "N00bs" through the game, as well as to help more experienced Minecrafters with things like command blocks and redstone contraptions. I know that non-admins can edit wikis, but I think to stream line my contributions, and to limit trollers and greifers on the wiki, I think that admin would be the best way to go. I hope that you consider this, as I think I will be a great member of the gamepedia minecraft wiki admin/bureaucrat team. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 99.102.136.65 (talk) at 01:47, 19 November 2014 (UTC). Also, we don't usually listen to admin requests (aside from ones for other languages that don't have many/any admins yet), instead we pick people that we have seen making exceptional contributions to the wiki and ask them if they want to be admin.

Majr on Quatroking's talk page
LauraFitalk 02:46, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
As LauraFi pointed out, administrators are chosen based on exceptional contributions, not requests for administrative rights. Our admin team is currently sufficient to block trolls and vandals before any real problems happen, and regular users are fully capable of reverting vandalism just as well. Really everything you listed can be performed by regular users.
Instead of trying to become an admin, simply make good contributions to the wiki as a standard user, almost all good contributions are able to be performed by standard users. Find places where your knowledge of the game is helpful, such as the tutorials for the "noobs", and follow the rules and the style guide. Making an account is also advised.
I'm not an admin, just a regular user. KnightMiner (t·c) 03:32, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
While I don't agree at all with the tone of the discussion LauraFi quoted from, the quote itself has a point: we don't normally accept requests from users for adminship. Even my own request was shot down, and this was when I'd already been an administrator on Wikipedia for over a year, and had extensive experience with the tools there and elsewhere, and a specific need for them here. While I'm sure you'd make an excellent addition to the admin team here, we unfortunately cannot just take you at your word for it, instead requiring a proven track record of solid contributions; even after that, editors are normally approached as a need for additional admins arises, rather than accepting requests from editors. So my advice to you is broadly the same as KnightMiner's: make high-quality contributions (there's a lot you can do here that doesn't require the admin bit at all) and stay active. =) ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 03:42, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

Request bot right for alternate account

Can I get the bot right for User:KnightBot4? The bot uses pywikibot, and would make changes and updates to template parameters, such as substituting 1.9 eventually, or implementing the horizontal parameter for {{breaking row}} where relevant.
