This user page serves to be a nice list of reasons users, whether editor or reader, should be using this Minecraft Wiki instead of the Fandom Minecraft Wiki. This should be useful to link to if you encounter someone questioning why they should be here instead of Fandom. To avoid being repetitive, I won't say "Fandom does/doesn't do this" after every point, so assume that for every point listed here, Fandom does the opposite/doesn't have that/is worse in that regard.
There's probably always more that could be added to this list, so add something if you think it's a good positive of our wiki. Though, for the sake of the list being easily readable I would not recommend adding every single tiny miniscule thing, like "user redlinks look a bit nicer". We could bloat this list to make ourselves look better, but the great thing is... we don't need to do that :).
So, here's why you should be using minecraft.wiki:
- We have no ads currently
- We plan to implement ads, however this will be one single ad on the sidebar below the fold (this means you have to scroll down before you even encounter the ad), which isn't visible on mobile
- We do not bloat our wiki with meaningless features that users never requested for the sake of appeasing shareholders
- Primarily because of the first two points, we have exceptionally fast loading speeds
- Also primarily because of the first two points, our wiki should never cause your mobile device to overheat
- We don't require that you create an account to make an edit
- We don't require that you provide your email address when making an account
- Therefore, we do not require you to provide your email address to make an edit.
- Our wiki is actively maintained because it forked from Fandom, bringing nearly all of its editors
- This means we quickly have new content documented
- This means we respond quickly to vandalism, and the wiki is moderated as it should be, as we have an active administrator team
- This means if you need help with something on the wiki, you're actually rather likely to receive help when asking here
- You may notice that some stragglers create pages for new content on Fandom, though you'll also notice that these pages are in incredibly poor condition relative to our pages and will not be updated past the first iteration of the feature
- If you care about using the "official" Minecraft Wiki, you should know that this wiki is linked to and endorsed on the official Minecraft website instead of the Fandom wiki, though you should also know that none of the minecraft wikis are truly official
- We use the Vector 2010 desktop skin, which is the standard wiki skin you'll know and love from most other non-Fandom gaming wikis
- We've implemented calculators to broaden the usefulness of the wiki
