This is the documentation page. It should be transcluded into Template:'. See Template:Documentation for more information.

This template generates a ' (straight quote or apostrophe) character. It can be used where this character precedes or follows wiki markup for italic ('') or bold (''') text. Using the template prevents confusing the parser, makes it clear that the character is not part of the markup, and is easier to read than other ways of accomplishing the same result.

Note that this template is not needed, and should not be used, where a plain straight quote character in the text produces the same result.
