Talk:Trial Spawner
Stray spawner blocks[edit source]
I’m fairly sure that those are ice blocks and not packed ice that surround the stray trial spawner. Anyway, the source for this goes to a random point in the video, and Brandon Pearce states that they are ‘ice blocks’. Let’s keep it at ice blocks until they can be confirmed to be different. Phofers (talk) 21:19, 16 October 2023 (UTC)
- At 1:02:00 on the official live stream ([1]) you can see they are packed ice and not just regular ice blocks in a close up shot Mudscape (talk) 21:25, 16 October 2023 (UTC)
- I forgot they updated ice visuals in 1.14 and I cannot conclusively tell between regular and packed ice with the quality of the video. I'm sure someone can map out the actual pixels and figure it out but I don't think it matters much for the few weeks until we get snapshots Mudscape (talk) 21:30, 16 October 2023 (UTC)
- At 58:12 (the first demo of a stray spawner) it looks much more like packed ice; it more closely matches its top face (which is different than that of ice), and also doesn't look translucent. –Sonicwave talk 21:56, 16 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Sonicwave could we revert? the source also appears to have been lost in the edit. Enbyd (talk) 21:59, 16 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Enbyd: I've reverted it and added a source pointing to 57:20, where Brandon actually makes the ice blocks statement and the demo and closeups occur shortly after. As a side note, all of the other timestamps in the article also seem to be broken and point to the end of the video, or past it. Not sure if the video got trimmed after uploading to cause this. –Sonicwave talk 22:13, 16 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Sonicwave: That could be a good explanation for the broken links. It would be worth checking all of the new pages from this weekend to update any of the timestamps that were used. | Enbyd (talk) 22:32, 16 October 2023 (UTC)
- Based on discussion in Discord it looks like the difference is 662 seconds removed from the start of the video. I've updated all of the timestamps here, so far haven't found any other pages that use timestamps from that video (at least when searching for the pattern "DnY5xz11lR0?t"). –Sonicwave talk 23:00, 16 October 2023 (UTC)

Should we change it to ‘ice or packed ice’? Phofers (talk) 03:03, 21 October 2023 (UTC)
Timestamps[edit source]
Sonicwave's edit updated the inline references to the stream video, however the References section still displays the previous timestamps and links to them as well. Enbyd (talk) 22:57, 16 October 2023 (UTC)
- Issue has resolved. May have been caching of some sort. Enbyd (talk) 23:17, 16 October 2023 (UTC)
It seems as if mojang has updated the video in some way that all the timestamps I have tested are now broken. cph101 12:34 18 October 2023 (GMT)
- @cph101: I updated the first broken link. This video edit may not be a simple cut, so I've held off on doing math to update them this time. Still need to find where the others are referring to. | Enbyd (talk) 14:37, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
- Fixed. The math: subtract 1200 from the numbers at the end of the URLs. Cheers — Nor (talk) 15:20, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Nor: It works, thanks! Looks like they removed the countdown that was originally shown before, probably resulting in the time differences.
Breaking time[edit source]
I removed the section that gives info on breaking time for the spawner, as the source provided only goes to a random point in Cubfan135’s MCLive stream. Phofers (talk) 03:02, 21 October 2023 (UTC)
- In the "random point" of the livestream, cubfan reads out an answer from a Mojang Q&A regarding Minecraft Live that some content creators got, which specifically says that Trial Spawners have the same breaking time as reinforced deepslate. It'd be good to have a better source, but this is pretty much confirmed true. Perhaps the link didn't put you at the correct timestamp? Consider checking 1:25:55 manually. | violine1101 (talk) 03:10, 21 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Phofers: As Violine1101 said, it's not a "random point" in the stream. It may not be the best possible source, but it's the best one I could find. It generally seems to be accepted as fact — other large creators have said trial spawners take as long as reinforced deepslate to mine, such as Xisuma in his 1.21 video. It's also worth noting that the Java Edition 1.21 page says this as well, though the source provided is the same Cubfan stream. Saucy (talk) 06:01, 21 October 2023 (UTC)
Ah, crap, I didn’t have my audio on. I’m sorry about that. Phofers (talk) 01:35, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
Mobs Which Can Be Spawned[edit source]
Through testing, I've determined that many monsters don't currently have functionality with the spawner. Below is a detailed account. Mobs which will spawn:
- All hostile mobs
- Most neutral mobs: Bees, Endermen, Iron Golems, Piglins, Wolves
- Some peaceful mobs: Allays, Camels, Parrots, Skeleton Horses, Sniffers, Striders, Tadpoles, Villagers, Wandering Traders, Zombie Horses.
All other mobs which have spawn eggs available in the creative inventory do not function with the trial spawner. I am currently unsure whether the lack of functionality for several mobs is a bug or an intended feature. --2603:6081:2700:23FF:C258:DE96:A053:E1C3 05:31, 9 November 2023 (UTC)
- Any entity can be spawned by the trial spawner as long as its spawn conditions are met. I initially jumped to the "only hostile mobs" conclusion when axolotls didn't work at first, but then tested other passive mobs that did work, which disproved that idea. Axolotls require water blocks to spawn in, and those are not present by default in a trial room. Adding water around the axolotl spawner allowed them to spawn during the trial as expected. Using custom spawn eggs, you can even use the trial spawner to summon (the default instance of) any entity, as far as I can tell. | Enbyd (talk) 06:17, 9 November 2023 (UTC)
- It is worth adding that this "can spawn any entity" functionality is not different than that of monster spawners. | Enbyd (talk) 16:13, 9 November 2023 (UTC)
Incorrect time to break due to conflicting info[edit source]
It seems the breaking time as apparently seen in the code and the breaking time as seen in game conflict, according to the 50 hardness value it should be 75 seconds, but from testing ingame, and confirmed by slicedlime here, it takes 250 seconds to break, meaning the listed time to break is incorrect as well as implying a much higher hardness value JugarBien (talk) 04:22, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
- The Breaking article mentions that "The base time in seconds is the block's hardness multiplied by 1.5 if the player can harvest the block with the current tool, or 5 if the player cannot" -> which would be correct for hardness 50 and 250 seconds of breaking time. I'm guessing that the person who put 75 seconds here implied the 1.5 multiplier. The sentence could be stated a little better though --Melwin22 (talk) 11:09, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
id tend to agree with you, but reinforced deepslate, a block also with no drop and no correct tool, is listed with yellow background + the hardness value indicating a 1.5 mulitplier, meaning at least one of these articles is wrong somehow JugarBien (talk) 01:06, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- Both articles are correct. In the code, trial spawners are marked as requiring the correct tool to drop, but reinforced deepslate is not. So, you technically could harvest reinforced deepslate with your fist, but the block does not drop since its loot table is empty. That's why reinforced deepslate uses the 1.5x multiplier while trial spawners use the 5x multiplier. Tis (talk) 02:55, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
We debated in Chinese community that how to express it short, accurate and different from blocks such as reinforced deepslate. You may see it for reference.--Wilf233zhMCW(论·功) 03:29, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
Shouldn't we use <math>?[edit source]
Shouldn't this use equations and tables?:
I think it should be like this:
- The number of mobs spawned increases when another player comes within 14 blocks of the spawner. Each player increases the mob cap by 1, and the total mobs required in order to give a reward by 2.
- Where is the number of players near the player:
Example Values players (p) mob cap (C) total required (T) 1 2 6 2 3 8 3 4 10 4 5 12 5 6 14
--Simanelix (T|C) 23:11, 13 February 2024 (UTC)
Something about this is incorrect. I'm consistently seeing something different. I believe it might have something to do with the type of room that the spawner is in. The "chamber_8" (which for me only has spawners for usual skeletons), when I'm alone and with out ominous effect, spawners seem to each spawn 1 enemy after every... several seconds (maybe 5-10). The total of 6 before the loot is given out seems to be correct. However, an identical spawner at a "corridor/straight" location seems to normally quickly spawn up to 3 skeletons with in a couple of seconds. The total number of 6 seems to also apply here. 2001:7D0:81DC:3680:C0DB:644E:4E8F:5E6C 19:08, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
- Nevermind. I saw where I messed up. 2001:7D0:81DC:3680:C0DB:644E:4E8F:5E6C 20:25, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
The Bedrock Loot[edit source]
Hey, I found that the table loot of the Trial Chambers in Minecraft Bedrock hasn't been added yet. I already went through the file and I want to add the list, which is quite different from Java. However, it's so complicated for me. Where do you add it? Why is it so hard to add a list of a loot table? Sanfilzandss (talk) 14:54, 13 May 2024 (UTC)
Slow Version Spawners[edit source]
There's a "more information needed" in the section Spawning values, which states "Which spawners are slow? Is this random? What's the probability?" These slow spawners only apply to Chamber 8, which is Ranged spawner only and it's to balance the combat chamber a little better. You can check this yourself by placing a template of the chamber and checking the jigsaw block, that it does indeed generate a trial spawner that has a slower spawn interval. Trial Spawner cooldown behavior, in loaded or unloaded chunks[edit source]
An additional information but I would like to hear opinions first before adding, so it might be publicly known that trial spawner will conitnue to tick down its cooldown even when unloaded, it seems like they only rely on time difference between current time and last reward ejecting timestamp... but on what section I should add this? Should I make some effort to create some video proof? 30 minutes seems to be too long for a proof video. Blackrobe (talk) 06:09, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
- This might be a bug. You can report it at mojira, and then add a mojira link here.

Undocumented Trial Spawner spawning algorithm change in 1.21.2[edit source]
Pre-1.21.2 behavior: Trial Spawners can only spawn mobs on top of valid solid blocks that it could reach and see. It will never spawn mobs in mid-air.
Post-1.21.2 behavior: Trial Spawners are capable to spawn mobs mid-air, this is more similar to how standard monster spawners do it.
I have filed a bug report about this on Mojira https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-279836
There is a short instruction how to reproduce this, both in 1.21.1 and 1.21.2 / later versions. Blackrobe (talk) 01:49, 28 January 2025 (UTC)
