Redstone Glow in 1.0.0

"If a player left or right clicks on, or an Entity moves or falls on Redstone ore, the block will emit level 9 light for 3 seconds."

Does it seem to glow much much longer for anyone else? Perhaps it's because I was in creative mode, but I stepped on a redstone ore block and it must have been glowing for at least a minute. Subignition 09:06, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

There's a contradiction on the page at the moment. The main part of the page says it glows for 3 seconds, the trivia part says 30 seconds. Which one is it? One should be removed, cause just correcting it and leaving them both there would be redundant. Hydraxan14 16:03, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

Tested on Creative, it seems to be quite random. I've seen the glow last anywhere from about 5 seconds to over 3 minutes. Might need someone to check the source code for an authoritative answer. - Orthotope 16:38, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

future uses?

i feel like there should be more uses for this, like maybe a timed powersource. I currently use it as a redsmoke generater for some of my creative builds, and i think they should have a way KEEP it on or toggle it. i think maybe having charged wiring on top of it might have done the trick, but im not sure.TheHoodedTeddy13 14:28, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

Does it really emit light?

It actually emits light (4 squares worth) when struck. With the latest update, it makes small particle effects when struck, in addition to being the lighter shade of red. Location

Should mention that it is found near lava as well as adminium? or is that just speculation? --Zaneo 19:26, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

I'd say speculation. In my current save I have yet to chance upon any lava, but have found several veins of Redstone. It will probably often be found near bedrock/adminium, if only because it appears more frequently in the lower regions of maps. --Keris Rain 20:42, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Mining time

I was wondering if someone could find the mining time for Redstone Ore - I know it takes a while, but I don't know whether you have to time it or if it's somewhere in the code... If someone could do that, that would be great! Bigreader 20:56, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Do creepers really drop redstone??!

I was just wondering, but I saw an edit showing that you can also get redstone from creepers. Possibly it was simply a newbie who mistook it for gunpowder, or a something like that? I went ahead and just removed it. I believe it was trying to say a creeper explosion would break the ore block and produce dust. But honestly, it was just confusing and kind of unnecessary. --Warlock 22:43, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

Redstone is a metal, it conducts

Yes, since it's the sodium (metal) in the salt water which makes it conductive, pure water doesn't conduct --Furtimos

Science time, based on how it reacts to current and its electrical properties redstone is most likely a chemical compound with zinc related elements in it. Based on the fact that it can generate current, also it likely has phosphorus in it too because it glows, and it could have a silicon component too but that's unlikely because that wouldn't be a single compound but a mix of different things.--98.111.219.231 01:40, 14 March 2012 (UTC)

Red ore?

Why is this being moved back to red ore? Ingame it is called redstone and this just messes up the wiki. Red ore was the old name before it was called redstone. --Captain_Clam 15:42, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

Time it glows

Looking at the article Tick, block updates happen every 14 seconds on average for a particular block. Is this when the ore stops glowing? HotdogPi 00:51, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

Redstone Ore Power

Redstone ore is incapable of providing power to any circuits, regardless of the circumstances. The only way to use redstone ore to produce a current is with a toggleable BUD switch. Naturally Created?

It says on the Blocks page that redstone ore is naturally created. It says nothing about this in the redstone ore page. It's referring to the “glowing” redstone ore, which is created when redstone ore is exposed or hit. That's a bit confusing, as it's named the same and it usually happens due to a player action... I think I'll mention "glowing" there. —kpreid 00:44, 2 May 2012 (UTC)

Right Clicking with Food

really a completely unimportant glitch, when you look at a block of ore and right click to eat it will act as if you've hit the block. maybe you could use the excuse that it's just the food flying everywhere that activates it. it's nice just to see a funny glitch that doesn't ruin the game for once. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 50.70.193.123 ^(Talk) 15:18, 10 May 2012. Failed smelting

You know, i thought of something. If you bother to take the time to mine redstone or lapis ore with an enchanted pickaxe, then would it not make more sense for when smelting it would be a slightly larger amount than by mining regularly? I mean, think of it this way: When mining something, you lose some of the mineral you were mining because it is buried in some rocks. But if smelted and all the stone is removed then there would be no loss, which to minecraft terms, would count for instead of 4-5 redstone, more like a definite 6 or 8 redstone. Just saying. I can't mine redstone ores

Lightning time from the ore

How long is the redstone-ore lightning? I want to build something with redstone and need this number. I only need this two numbers when it starts and when it ends. Lindeliaz (talk) 21:35, 27 November 2020 (UTC)

As mentioned in the article under #Light, it stays lit until the next random block tick, which averages 68.27 seconds (assuming gamerule randomTickSpeed is set to its default value of 3). –Sonicwave ^talk 21:48, 27 November 2020 (UTC)
