why is this page separated from the enchanted golden apple--Jadon0506 (talk) 17:00, 13 April 2021 (UTC)JadonReply[reply]

See the split discussion at Talk:Golden Apple/Archive 2#Split .28again.29; they have some differences, such as only regular golden apples being usable to cure zombie villagers. –Sonicwave talk 17:39, 13 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

History of the Golden Apple and Enchanted Golden Apple[edit source]

I have made some adjustments to the history of the golden apple, and why it is officially a Rare item despite being crafted from somewhat abundant materials. I argue that the golden apple existed only in Java Edition 1.1, while the enchanted golden apple appeared all the way in Infdev. The ordinary apple was completely unobtainable for the entirety of its Indev, Alpha, and the majority of the Beta versions unless a player named "Notch" died. Apples were only made available in ordinary survival during the Adventure update, and it was only seen in stronghold chests. Until the golden apple in the current form replaced the first incarnation of the enchanted golden apple, the availability of the apple was solely for the enchanted golden apple.

The enchanted golden apple was outright replaced with the golden apple in 1.1, but was readded as a variant of the golden apple in 1.3. Both variants were simply called "golden apples", but they differed in rarity coloration. They were only fully separate items since the Flattening.

Until 1.13, both items shared the same ID of 322, so the only difference must be the item tags (damage tag?).

It simply didn't exist before 1.3. Golden apples went through numerous changes as you listed, but they still are regular golden apples. These changes should be described in the regular golden apple page. 1.3 added "enchanted" golden apples as a separate item with powers and recipe comparable to the regular one in past versions, but it's still a new separate item and old golden apples stay as regular golden apples. Saying enchanted apples were added in early versions then replaced with regular golden apples then reintroduced it's just speculation/personal interpretation.--Capopanzo (talk | contribs) 09:09, 1 July 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
You can also say that gears are the same as redstone wire, or that single roses are the same as poppies. Indeed, enchanted golden apples are both simply called golden apples until the Flattening.

Yes, roses are the same as poppies and for this reason they are covered in the history section of the poppy page. Gears can't be really compared because those have always been unused and non-functional. Not sure what's your point here, golden apples simply went through numerous balancing changes and at some point they wanted to reintroduce an "OP" golden apple as a separate item, and that's where the history of the enchanted golden apple starts. Capopanzo (talk | contribs) 05:36, 2 July 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The point is that all the old item shared the same ID and data tags as the new item.
  • Roses and poppies had the ID of 38
  • Gears and redstone wires had the ID of 55
  • Enchanted golden apple and golden apple had the ID of 332 and damage tag 1
  • All existing roses, gears, and enchanted golden apples got converted to their new counterparts on their respective updates
  • However, the old golden apple was added back in 1.3. It was only really called the enchanted golden apple in 1.13. Before, both items were called golden apples.

That's just your own personal interpretation, the facts are that there are a golden apple that was progressively made cheaper and weaker, and a new powerful version that was added later. I find that saying "enchanted golden apples were introduced in infdev (with no "regular" variant to compare it to), then straight up removed and replaced with a regular variant in 1.1, then reintroduced in 1.3 as a separate item" is much more convoluted and confusing - especially for readers - than saying "the regular golden apple was introduced in infdev, when through some balancing to make it cheaper in 1.1, then a more powerful version was introduced in 1.3".
Names and especially rarity colors are irrelevant to this discussion IMO - even if both were still named "Golden Apple" I'd have the powerful one on a separate page and still list 1.3 as the version it was added in.--Capopanzo (talk | contribs) 21:35, 3 July 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
"then a more powerful version was introduced in 1.3" - that is just the golden apple's original effects, modernized to include features not present in infdev.
I agree that the more powerful golden apple should be on a separate page, as it is now completely separate from the ID 332-0 golden apple. --MULLIGANACEOUS-- (talk) 16:45, 4 July 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

more clarity for relationship between golden apples and enchanted golden apples[edit source]

my edit has been reverted. it has been re-added by another user with a different phrasing, indicating a demand. without this sentence it is not clear that golden apples cannot turn into enchanted golden apples. if you still think this needs to be removed, please argue here instead of an edit war Nnnu (talk) 16:02, 15 April 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]
