Should the Ender Dragon be referred to as a she?[edit source]

The Ender Dragon has been confirmed to be a female, so should the Ender Dragon be referred to in female pronouns rather than it?–Preceding unsigned comment was added by Sarsath (talkcontribs) at 00:07, August 14, 2020 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~
How is the ender dragon confirmed to be a female, the egg never hatches, minecraft doesnt use genders and WATS YOUR SOURCE, i dont recall mojang ever saying that---Humiebee Discuss anything with me Look at my edits 00:09, 15 August 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It's mentioned under the trivia section. –Sonicwave talk 00:18, 15 August 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Gender doesn't exist in Minecraft, so no.  Nixinova T  ::C   00:11, 15 August 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
There are no genders in minecraft. In some minecraft merchandise, like the gameknight999 books, the ender dragon is definitely a she. but in normal minecraft THE ENDER DRAGON IS NOT A SHE!!! --Minecraftdabest! (talk) 12:59, 19 August 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Mojang has repeatably confirmed the Ender Dragon is female, and named Jean, so I say  yes, refer to as female. Just look on the minecraft discord, "from:HelenAngel#0001 Jean". FVbico (talk) 15:56, 19 August 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
i think the first ender dragon is a she, because an egg spawns after you defeat her, and the ender dragons summoned after using ender cyrystals could be a he, because no eg spawns Roykoopa31 (talk) 16:44, 25 January 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Despite no genders in minecraft, I believe we should call the ender dragon female. Blockofnetherite Talk Contributions 16:51, 25 January 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I believe the ender dragon is "she" BECAUSE of the dragon egg AND the name. TheGreatSpring (talk) 23:13, 25 January 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The Dragon is a female but its still an animal and if we have a female dog then we talk about IT not SHE. SlovakSmileSK (talk) 10:10, 28 March 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Mojangstas repeatedly call the ender dragon using female pronouns. TheGreatSpring (talk | contribs) (Tagalog translation) 10:21, 28 March 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
With what official source? - Discord and Reddit don't count. Genders don't exist in minecraft. I don't recall any minecraft.net articles, official youtube videos, or MINECON's saying anything about a female ender dragon. Humiebeetalk contribs 13:46, 5 June 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
There's no indication of the mobs' gender, and considering all other mobs are gender-neutral there's no reason to assume the dragon is any different. Wiki pages should maintain an objective viewpoint and since there is no reliable source to back up the claim of it being a female, I suggest the gender-neutral pronouns be brought back. --139.99.159.21 12:24, 5 June 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I agree that the neutral pronouns are consistent with the rest of the Minecraft mobs. Even if the dragon is a female it seems weird to call it by pronouns when it is a creature, does not speak, and its gender is not relevant to any information presented the wiki. Gendering a mob which need not be gendered is silly and spits in the face of this wiki's professionalism. --Ge (talk) 12:33, 5 June 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
it isnt a girl and it isnt a boy it doesnt have any gender just like chickens and cows. any mob in minecraft can give birth so the egg argument doesnt make any sence --174.138.27.245 12:48, 5 June 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
In how to play in Android, the Ender Dragon is referred to as she. Is this in other platforms of Bedrock? TheGreatFall (talk) 13:59, 5 June 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hmm... I looked in iOS and... She is a fierce and powerful enemy and seems to draw power from strange crystals. Her... Ok so she is a she (with an official source). Humiebeetalk contribs 14:02, 5 June 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
The Ender Dragon should be a it because even she is a she, because there is only one Ender Dragon so there wouldn’t be a male, so it should be named with a neutral pronoun. – Unsigned comment added by Jungle Desert (talkcontribs) at 01:10, 15 June 2022 (UTC). Sign comments with ~~~~Reply[reply]

Bosses[edit source]

I was recently watching an ibxtoycat video, you may know him for his Minecraft videos, and he had the Elder Guardian and Ravager as bosses in his boss speed run livestream. Would you consider them bosses, sub-bosses, or neither? I consider the Elder Guardian the boss for the ocean, and the Ravager the Illager boss, but feel free to decide. They should also make a Nether boss. I mean you could spawn the Wither, but that’s a really stupid idea. TBFTE123 (talk) 11:33, 29 September 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The closest thing we got to a naturally spawning nether boss was with the hovering inferno blaze in the 2017 Minecon mob vote. James Haydon (talk) 03:34, 30 September 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
How is this related to the Ender Dragon? That’s Me!(Salamander0007) (talk) 03:26, 12 March 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I guess because it's about bosses, but nowhere in there is the Ender Dragon ever mentioned. James Haydon (talk) 16:37, 27 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Verify[edit source]

"If a dragon goes through an End gateway, another will immediately spawn at (0, 128, 0 ) while the other dragon stays on the outer End islands until the chunks get loaded." Could not reproduce. Dragon just flies toward (0,0) of the end which is intended. It does however get unloaded until you go through to meet it, which means you'd have to fly back with the Dragon to (0,0), otherwise it will remain unloaded.

"Though re-summoning of the dragon is supposed to only be able to take place after the dragons defeat, there seems to be a bug in the most recent version of the game that allows it to be re-summoned before its death. But, it is unclear whether or not this is simply a server-side issue in the known cases." Could not reproduce. If it is a server issue, may be due to a plugin of the server jar. If it is a client issue (Singleplayer), too, please provide evidence for it. I will address the Dream video, too. In the aftermath video linked here (with time-stamp), BadBoyHalo and George (maybe others) state that they ARE using a custom jar, which may be the cause.

"The dragon goes to the exit portal structure (approaching from the side opposite the player if possible) and lands on the highest block of the coordinates (x=0, z=0) up to (y=101). If there is no block in (x=0, z=0) the dragon will freeze right when she switches to perching. The dragon is immune to arrows in this state (they all catch fire and bounce off). Thrown tridents can still deal damage." Could not reproduce, "lands on the highest block of the coordinates (x=0, z=0) up to (y=101)", "If there is no block in (x=0, z=0) the dragon will freeze right when she switches to perching", and "Thrown tridents can still deal damage." The dragon will go all the way to the build limit if needed, the dragon does not freeze if there are no missing blocks and instead will travel to y=0, and thrown tridents will not deal damage to the dragon.

In relation to the trident throwing, I have found while testing that if you deal damage to the dragon whilst perching, it will attempt to perch indefinitely if constantly damaging it. I've created a bug tracker report here at MC-224316.

This is all in the latest version. Note: I do use client-side mods that help with performance, for I do not have the best computer to run Minecraft. None of these should be affecting gameplay mechanics. The most any of them should be affecting are the rendering of entities in relation to the player. If it turns out they are, and some or all the information I have laid down is inaccurate, then my apologies.

Speculation should be removed immediately, particularly when it includes commentary like "it is unclear whether or not..." - and I have removed it.
Anything you cannot reproduce should also be removed immediately. Too much fancrufty dubious factoids make it into articles on this wiki. Amatulic (talk) 16:56, 27 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It seems to be a bedrock-only feature/bug, as I am on bedrock on the latest version and it does freeze mid-air on the outer ring of the end pillars. Evildemolisher (talk)
Alright, cool. I wasn't sure if I should've removed some of the things, due to they may being genuine issues and to redirect to this comment I made about all of them. The trident one I was sure was wrong, though. ItsDatSpicymeme (talk) 17:43, 27 April 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

"The dragon is immune to all status effects excluding instant damage, which still damages her if you throw the splash or lingering potion of harming at the top bedrock block of the exit portal." I have tested this out, and instant damage does nothing to the Ender Dragon. Instant health works on the dragon though.

Ender dragon selector[edit source]

In 1.18.2, @e[type=ender_dragon] only selects only ONE entity, which tells that ender dragon is no longer 9 entities (needs confirm) inside and is different from the wiki. This is confirmed on 1.18.2, but I'm not sure about newer and older version. TheColdPot (talk) 04:47, 2 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

You must test it on 1.19.1 (the current version). TheGreatSpring (talk | contribs) 04:51, 2 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I just did here and it's definitely one entity. That sentence should be removed from the page. - AD OffKilter (talk) 05:59, 2 August 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Retaliate from other mobs?[edit source]

"the dragon may sometimes retaliate against other mobs if it takes damage to a projectile"

however

"The dragon can take damage only from explosions and player-based damage"

so how could this be?

From my own tests, I can't seem to observe this "retaliating against other mobs" behavior. I mean... they can't damage it, even Wardens and Withers can't Melwin22 (talk) 19:15, 29 September 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

When did target selectors stop recognising the ender dragon as 9 entities?[edit source]

The following text was recently removed from the article as it is now outdated (tested in 23w51b by Capopanzo and in 1.20.4 by me, ZacNVR):

"Target selectors for the ender dragon target a total of 9 entities per dragon, as the ender dragon actually consists of 9 entities internally‌[Java Edition only]. So executing at a dragon to summon an arrow summons 9 arrows."

I was curious and found that it had been added in this revision, on the 3rd of August 2020. At the time the most recent version was Java Edition 1.16.1, and in this version the above statement is true. I will look into it myself soon, but I was wondering if anyone knows when this change occurred. – ZacNVR (talk) 02:31, 5 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I just realised a post above this notes that this was also outdated in 1.18.2 and 1.19.1. – ZacNVR (talk) 02:35, 5 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It seems this changed in 20w45a. /execute if entity @e[type=ender_dragon] returns 9 in 1.16.4, and 1 in 20w45a.--Capopanzo (talk | contribs) 13:25, 5 January 2024 (UTC) -- 19w08a is the start version.--Capopanzo (talk | contribs) 13:51, 5 January 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Why can't the dragon be named?[edit source]

I just read the trivia on this article, and it says "Name tags cannot be used on the ender dragon." Why is that? Is it because it's a boss? No, I also read the name tag article, and there was an image of the wither being named, so I don't think it's because it is a boss. Does anyone have any ideas on why the dragon can't be named? Refights do not drop original experience in Bedrock?[edit source]

In the drops section of the page the following line can be found:

"When a re-summoned ender dragon is slain, the same events occur except that only 500 experience points are dropped‌[Java Edition only] and no more than 20 gateway portals are generated."

As a Bedrock player myself, I am confident that subsequent refights of the Ender Dragon do not grant the original 12000 experience of the first fight. If this was the case, I'd expect there to be much more sources that confirm this (such as the Experience page, which does not mention differences with the Ender Dragon between the two versions). Looking through the history of the page, I see that this revision was created by an unlogged user with no citation to back it up. This has been here for over two years, and I am strongly confident this exclusivity note is incorrect and should be removed. NamedIShallNotBe (talk) 22:58, 17 June 2024 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I  Support removing the ‌[Java Edition only] tag because it is untrue. Either that or keep it but add a part that says how much xp it drops the second or more times on Bedrock because it definitely isn't nearly as much xp as the first fight. Should it say smelly instead of corrosive?[edit source]

This page says that the dragon can hurt you with its corrosive breath but the achievement and advancement are both for collecting dragon’s breath is called “You Need a Mint“ this suggests that it’s breath simply smells so foul that it kills you.

But I do not know the evidence for corrosion so perhaps there is much more evidence of corrosion. Wii U fan 739 (talk) 01:36, 1 March 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I edited the article last night to remove the word "corrosive" from the intro; it seemed somewhat of an artistic interpretation and not fully accurate. I see your point with the name of the achievement/advancement, but many of the names of achievements/advancements are jokes or puns. I'm not sure that "You Need a Mint", which does imply that the dragon has bad breath, is meant to be a serious in-game explanation for why the dragon's fireballs and breath attack damage the player. Also, thanks for rewording the topic; it's much clearer what you mean, and it invites discussion. Rampage455 (talk) 04:21, 1 March 2025 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Possible revision in history section.[edit source]

In the history section 1.4 has two entries, the second entry ( The wither was added, despite jeb saying he would not add another boss until the ender dragon was revamped. )does not directly relate to the dragon and it’s history instead just something Jeb mentioned on April twenty eighth of 2012( Jeb mentioned that he wouldn't be adding any more boss mobs until he makes the ender dragon "more fun first". ).
