Technical changes section

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it.

This had already been implemented. (why wasn't this closed?) --GIM Dianliang233 (talk) 07:14, 10 March 2025 (UTC)

So, I have a proposal.

I really hope that this might get an actual discussion, but my hopes are not high after the last two topics I've made.

Anyway, what if there was a "Technical changes" section for version pages? You might ask what would be in the technical changes section, and I answer, have a rough draft! I think that this is a good idea because a lot of people aren't terribly interested in technical changes such as IDs being split, tags being added, or IDs being changed. What do you think? -~- Nerdyguy2000   talk   edits 14:04, 27 August 2024 (UTC)

Good idea. Like how slicedlime makes a technical changes video for some Minecraft updates. (talk) 14:38, 27 August 2024 (UTC)

Would you like to add an argument to that? Like, do you agree with another user? (Even though only one other user has responded). -~- Nerdyguy2000   talk   edits 23:27, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
I see that no one has commented on a while. Does anyone else have anything to say? -~- Nerdyguy2000   Talk   Edits  23:54, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
I don't agree with having it as a new H2 but having ===Technical=== as a new H3 between Commands and General would be something worth considering.  Nixinova T  C   03:17, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
(Sidenote, I would say "This shouldn't be a forum post! It should be a MCT:SG/V post!" But that page gets less eyes even with my beaconing to it from MCW:SG/V itself so I get it.)  Nixinova T  C   03:18, 17 September 2024 (UTC)
I always feel that these major feature pages are lengthy and hard to parse, and having the technical changes mixed in with everything else contributes to that, so I would support splitting them out somehow; not sure if separate H2 or H3 headings would be better. My concern however is how to determine what gets placed under the "technical" section and whether this criteria can be applied consistently. In your example for instance, "Command changes" are under the main section, while "Level screenshot thumbnails now support RTX worlds" is a technical change despite arguably being more general than the /spreadplayers command change. –Sonicwave talk 20:21, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
I guess that my definition is that if you wouldn't encounter it on normal gameplay (normal being defined as playing at all in any game mode without mods, multiplayer also being "normal gameplay".). One might use /spreadplayers in creative mode whereas one probably wouldn't give a care about tags being split and things like that. I don't know if my draft is too accurate, though... I don't even know what RTX worlds are, so that may affect normal gameplay and I don't know it. -~- Nerdyguy2000   Talk   Edits  20:37, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
I think RTX worlds are worlds you played on with RTX on + a RTX resource pack. (talk|contributions) 20:46, 22 September 2024 (UTC)

Support There are typically lots of them so it might be hard to find other additions/changes.  Note it seems that in Java Edition 1.21 there's this kind of split. Miner(talk contributions) 12:53, 12 January 2025 (UTC)
Would "Command format" sections then now always be put under "Technical"?  Nixinova T  C   00:11, 15 February 2025 (UTC)
I actually don't think so. While I see that, for example, on the page that Miner linked, there is one major command change under that section that I wouldn't actually consider technical; that is, the new selector. What do you think? -~- Nerdyguy2000   Talk   Edits  00:54, 15 February 2025 (UTC)
I don't consider commands technical. Test and debug changes, file format changes, Java version changes, NBT syntax changes, all that would go under technical, but commands and selectors (i.e. in-game-related content) are general enough to go straight in.  Nixinova T  C   10:24, 16 February 2025 (UTC)
Support why are good talk pages abandoned like this? This is a good thing and will help pages improve. 2401:4900:A501:E303:0:0:25A8:63D 10:12, 7 March 2025 (UTC)
