May i ask why you reverted me on the endermen article? many people (Excluding me) just cbf to look through the entire article for a trivia explaining why they're called endermen and not farlanders, as they might have thought.--Neil2250 21:25, 26 August 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Um. I was thinking on whether to add "occasionally unofficially named Farlanders" or something like that but I was in a rush and went with the deletion option. Sorry. Just mention that their official name is the Endermen, and quite a few people don't want them called (or don't want to hear of them being called) Farlanders, although I'm not sure if opinion should be brought into a wiki. Just saying. >>HexZyle<< TALK|CONT 00:16, 27 August 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Melon items. Edit

Why did you suggest the moves for the Melon Slice page and the Melon Seeds page?

I was always under the assumption that the name outside of the parentheses was the title of the page, while the text in the parentheses was an extra definition added on only because something else had a similar name. For example:

You wouldn't call this a Melon of the type "Slice", you would just call it a Melon Slice.
You wouldn't call this a Melon of the type "Seeds", you would just call it Melon Seeds. You might, however, call it Seeds of the type "Melon"; Seeds (Melon)

Yeah my bad. I said to Cool about how i didnt know much about the formats of wikis. Change it if you want. >>HexZyle<< TALK|CONT 06:13, 29 August 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Done! I bet Ultradude25 is going to be confused about he many moves. :D Verhalthur (talk)(contribs) 13:11, 29 August 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Um....don't want to be confusing but now that i think about it, having it as Melon (seed) is fine for now (Seeing as there is Iron (block), Iron (ingot) and Iron (ore) and also Restone (Torch), (Ore), (Dust), (Wire), and (Repeater)) >>HexZyle<< TALK|CONT 13:25, 29 August 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Oh, right! This is that whole discussion on the Community Portal talk page. I'll add a post to that with this information. Verhalthur (talk)(contribs) 13:30, 29 August 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Watchlist and signature Edit

Only 145 pages? Bah, my watchlist has over 400 pages, and that's just on this wiki (on the Yu-Gi-Oh! Wikia, I have almost 8000 (yes, eight thousand) pages watchlisted). =D

As for your signature, it cannot simply be transcluded, since it otherwise will eventually become a widely-used template, with all the problems associated with that (whenever it's updated, the software must update every transclusion as well; a vandal can vandalize a large number of pages with a single edit (and if the page is protected to prevent this, it means you cannot edit it, but rather must get an administrator to make every change you want made)). A better method is to have it automatically substituted when you save a page: add the code {{subst:User:HexZyle/Template:Signature}} to the "New signature" inputbox in your preferences (replacing anything else that may be in the field already), and make sure the "Treat signature as wikitext" checkbox immediately under it is checked (this is the same setup I use for my sig). ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 20:37, 10 September 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Understood. I'll have a look into this --HexZyle 22:49, 10 September 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Re: Blaze Toms? Edit

It's okay, I just hate vandalizing IP editors and I don't like when my summary can't be usual format undoing of it for an admin to see. Nothing against you. MegaScience 19:40, 27 September 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Re: New, huh? Edit

Well, I am/was a top editor at BioShock Wiki. I'm used to that. And I'm sorta good at learning. I think I can get along for the most part. Also, that page doesn't need a "Template:" in it since it's already in the User talk namespace. Template just keeps them in a certain section. MegaScience 14:58, 28 September 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Re: You have been nominated... Edit

Well I don't have to be. My main problem around here is redirects are promoted. The admins at BioShock Wiki, among their other instructions, specifically stated against them. Something about additional bandwidth or something in the technical sense, and promoting misspellings, off-casing, and generally incorrect interwiki linking in the cosmetic sense. I can't go over this whole site trying to correct it, especially when I could guess there's a very large amount of redirects... Just bothers me. Can't concentrate anymore, but you don't have to add me is my point. MegaScience 20:14, 2 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Redirects do absolutely nothing to bandwidth used; that's complete hogwash (they are almost identical to links to normal pages as far as MediaWiki is concerned; looking up a link to a redirect only requires one additional db access versus looking up a link to a regular article, whereas editing a page specifically to bypass a redirect causes something on the order of 100 additional db accesses). The other reasons given to generally avoid redirects, though, are significantly more valid. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 21:12, 2 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I suppose the very small amount of processing for a redirect is more significant on Wikia since they host so many, and every little bit of processing counts against our specific one. I understand such a big wiki would need redirects to ease the workload of maintenance. But when I saw a group of redirect corrections in Recent Changes using misspellings and such, it bothered me I might happen upon misspellings gone unnoticed due to their links being blue, indicating they are correct... I'm VERY meticulous about spelling and grammar when I happen upon it, I'm sorry if this seems problematic. MegaScience 23:10, 2 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Fixing a misspelling that in the process bypasses a redirect is nothing to worry about. As for the load on Wikia, if they can manage to run SMW and DPL (both very server-heavy extensions) on the Yu-Gi-Oh! Wikia (one of their largest sources of traffic from a wiki on a Wikia subdomain) with very little trouble, they wouldn't even feel the extra workload from every single link on the BioShock wiki linking through redirects. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 23:41, 2 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
One reason to have redirects from “wrong” names is so that if one starts from thinking that name is right, one finds the actual article, rather than finding the wiki doesn't have an article and deciding to start one. Wrong names linked blue in text doesn't seem worse than any other copyediting problem. It also helps searching. —KPReid 12:34, 3 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
In both cases, the page would exist. The only difference is we make them all exist beforehand and no one learns. :( Whatever. MegaScience 02:44, 5 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Alchemy - a mechanic not an item Edit

The brewing page is about the brewing game mechanic, an action, a function, the potions page is about the item "potion", thus alchemy is best redirected to brewing. Also, if the situation is you describe it - the solution is not to redirect alchemy, but move the necessary info from potions to brewing.--Yurisho 15:40, 10 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

MCP/JDK Edit

You told me I need MCP and JDK for modding and pulling the scripts out of the encoded java. Do I need BOTH or just one or the other?

The instructions I read said get both. MCP is the actual program that decompiles the code...I'm not sure if you need JDK. Look it up on the forums. --HexZyle 05:45, 13 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Top Contributors title Edit

Hey, could I have a title for the Top Contributors page? I'd like to have "Minor Edit fan" and possibly "Anti-vandalist" :) Calinou - talk × contribs » 20:25, 16 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yeah sure! You can edit it in yourself, I'm often too busy (with the 1.9 pre-release pages, I love working on new content) to maintain that page. Just because it's part of my user page doesn't mean that no-one else can edit it. I'd be glad to see other people editing it. --HexZyle 22:32, 16 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Steve? Edit

Yes we do know the why he's called steve? with a q.mark - because it's not the official name, Notch twitted it a lot of time ago, around 3-4 months ago.--Yurisho 23:10, 16 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I am having a problem finding it, but be sure - it exists.--Yurisho 06:02, 17 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Weapon damages on mobs Chart Edit

HexZyle, I've added the rest of the hit numbers on the Weapon damages chart except for the critical hits with charged bow for the stronger mobs, and some critical hits for the cow, spider and enderman. I guessed that the critical hits for the weaker mobs would only be 1, since a regular charged shot kills them.

I couldn't find many cows for some reason. And how would you do a critical hit with a charged bow? I tried to fly and drop down on the mob firing the max-charged bow, but I couldn't get an accurate look. I'm not sure if it's possible but can you try it?. Btw on creative, you can hit a mob from far away and can still do critical hits as long as you jump and hit the mob while falling. (<==Can you add these new info too?) - Asterick6 00:41, 18 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

A critical hit with a bow is delivered when the bow is at maximum charge. Usually it's about 4.5, but about 30-50% of the time i can get 5 damage from a critical. (sometimes i can kill ghasts in one hit, other times 2, sometimes i can kill creepers in 3 hits, and rarely 2) Anyway, I only needed a couple damage records for that table to complete my research. Sorry if you wasted your time but if you see below i didnt need the whole table filled in to determine the health and damage of mobs and weapons. (i ended up doing it all myself :P) --HexZyle 00:57, 18 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Ok so I just went to look at the orphaned pages and found a Damage Table article. Maybe we should consider merging, updating, and incorporating all the tables from this page, the Health and Damage (Health and Damage#Dealing Damage/Health and Damage#Damage Inflicted by Mobs) article, and the Weapons article together into the Health and damage article or something? (Weapons and Mobs page can have the charts as references). I'm hoping that the number of hits to kill mobs chart can be used as a reference (probably just updating old chart with new values, and then there's the info on the skeleton arrow damage or other projectile damage to possibly add). btw I haven't had the chance to check out 1.9pre5 yet, but maybe some stats have changed. You're still working on this right? and if other people want to help, please do :) - Asterick6 06:08, 28 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Yeah, i was kinda frustrated how the weapons page was seperate to the health and damage page. I've just added a merge tag to the weapons page. Yes, I've completed the most of my experience project, so it's back to the health and damage project. That Damage table is lacking considerably, but I will merge the values into my current health and damage project, to maintain consistancy. However, it is the weekend so don't expect me to do anything substantial until monday. --HexZyle 07:25, 28 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

thanks Edit

No problem. It gets lonely on the wiki sometimes, so saying "hi" gives me a bit of a break. (i have no life btw :P) --HexZyle 07:26, 28 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

re: Latest revision as of 15:31, 31 October 2011 Edit

That's okay, I was just looking up melon actually when I saw the changes, and being a veteran wikipedian I made an account and fixed the entries. Also I'm never quite sure of the etiquette when responding to messages... --Kerotan 15:34, 31 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I heard you like vandals. Edit

This guy added a huge image of Goatse to the Enderman page. I thought that page was protected too. --Saphireking65 15:59, 31 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Weird. But the IP is blocked now, and I only add vandals so that I can revert their edits until an admin is present, which is usually only up to an hour or two at max. (So even you adding a vandal to the list for me wouldn't work that great, because I may not be online) It's not a final solution. --HexZyle 19:44, 31 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
